Water Pump Replacement Guide....

Greetings all......

I looked in the Tech Folder for a step by step guide to replace the water pump on our 7.3's. Couldn't find one. Anyone know of a good one??

I ordered the pump from Dieselsite....got the pump, 203* thermostat, lower pipe and billet thermo housing.

Any tips? Would you use RTV with all of the rubber gaskets that are supplied? If so, which color of RTV is recommended??

Check again, it's there.

Edit: I just realized it might be "camouflaged" in that you have to click on the "Gooch" coolant thread. The how to and videoes are contained in that thread.

Fixed.

Tech Folder has been edited to make them easier to find.

That is probably the only article that I didn't look at.....I used it when I changed out my coolant this summer and only associated the article to the coolant types and the process to flush and fill.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.....Is there a torque table out there? For the water pump, belt pulley and lower tube?

I've done so many water pumps I don't even think about it now. I just go by German specs (goodentite), as well as paying attention to how tight they are to begin with.

I've never had a leak or a problem with the 7 or 8 (lost count) water pumps I've either directly wrenched on and changed (5, I think), or the ones I gave help to.

Make sure you don't lose track of the bolts for the water pump. I laid mine out in the sequence/order I took them out.

The hardest part for me was getting that @#$%&^%$ clutch fan back on....took me awhile with that shroud on.

I found the easiest way to get the fan clutch on was to hold the fan on and spin the crank.

Would it hurt to pre-assemble my new pump.....install new thermostat and housing as well as the lower tube before I put the pump on the truck? I also have a Riffraff coolant filtration kit to install....was wondering if I should go ahead and install the hose that runs from the pump to the filter housing too??

Does the thermostat housing and lower tube require RTV??

I would assemble it before installing. I did and it would have been a pain to do the lower tube after install. The therothermostat housing can be done either before or after. I used RTV on both, not sure if it is required but I didn't want to have to go in and fix leaks after. Hope this helps.
