Hello I'm new here I have some questions that I'm concerned about I have a Ford Excursion 02 6.8l v10 has about 300000 mile and I was thinking I want to get a pipe to have a nice roar rumble sound lol then get it tune like horsepower better mpg economy etc which should I do first or what you guys think or recommend to do?
The 6.8 V-10 can be a strange sounding beast and kind of ricer harsh sounding if uncorked too much. I listened to EVERY sound clip I could find before I decided on my performance muffler, an Aeroturbine 3030XL. It provides a nice little rumble without sounding harsh or being too loud and at cruising speed/RPMs it doesn't drone. Which is great as my EX is a tow rig and drone on a 12/14 hour towing day would drive me insane.
I run Banks headers with the included Y pipe and the 3030XL, the rest of the exhaust system is still factory stock. I also use 5Star Tuning's custom tunes, they do a very nice job of waking the motor up and vastly improve the trans performance.
Here is my before/after sound clip.
You will not see any appreciable increase in MPG with a tune or exhaust work, maybe 1 MPG as a best case, but don't count on that. Adjusting the nut behind the wheel will net the best mileage improvement.
Mine has a 5 star y pipe, and its split after the cat into twin thrush mufflers with duals. One comes out behind each tire. I'm not smart enough to do a sound clip but it sounds tough as hell.
