Hi Everyone - I am looking at pulling the trigger and placing my order for a new 2017 Superduty and will be using it for towing a boat or a 35' travel trailer. Does anyone have any practical experience or recommendations with the blind spot monitoring package that they could share?
The only part I like about the sensors is the rear blind approaching collision avoidance. Forget what they call it. Other then that the mirror cover everything.
I don't feel I need the BLIS but there is some implied safety with it.

Sure. It only works on conventionally towed trailers (no gooseneck or 5th-wheel trailers) but that sounds like it is not an issue with your application. It also only works on trailers that are up to 33' long. I'm assuming this is the total length of the trailer from the hitch coupler on the tongue back to the rearmost part of the trailer. So if your travel trailer is 35' of body, plus another 4 feet of tongue...it is not going to work correctly. Your boat will probably work pretty well.
I frequently tow a construction trailer that is 27' long. The BLIS works pretty darn well. I think of it as more of a reminder, still relying on the mirrors to make sure I'm clear.
You simply name a trailer in the info center, and enter how long it is. The system will then continue to use BLIS when that trailer is attached. You will get the orange lights in the mirror when someone is in the blind spot zone; if you attempt to use your turn signal to change lanes, the light will flash and the message center will beep and flash a message.
I am getting an XLT with a 4.2 " productivity screen. Do you know if that would allow me to monitor the trailer blind spot also?
Yes, you have to order the BLIS option ($540) and the Blind Spot system works exactly the same as it would on any other truck. It works fine through the smaller productivity display.
