Truck ordered! Adding a camera inside trailer?
F350 KR Ultimate 4x4 Crew Cab diesel short bed SRW in fire bronze, 3.55 axle, gooseneck hitch and prep package, adaptive cruise, spray-in bedliner, tow tech bundle, trailer TPMS and camera. The more I read on the forums the longer the wait becomes! It's outfitted for pulling the horse trailer and will spend 95% of its time doing that.
I am wondering if I can add a camera INSIDE the horse compartment of my trailer and have it viewable through the screen in my cab with the other camera views? (This would allow me to check on the horses being trailered, but I don't want to add another screen in the cab.)
• Would this be an additionally purchased camera?
• Or would I need to use the one that would otherwise be placed on the back of my trailer for a back/up view? Is it able to transmit from inside a steel trailer? Can it be viewed on the screen when the vehicle is at speed, for example driving down the highway.
• Could I relocate the truck's tailgate camera (not going to get used as I use a gooseneck and will have the truckbed camera for hooking up)?
I don't know if this is possible, but it would be awfully nice to find out that it is. Thanks!
Ford offers a hard-wired, trailer mountable camera system. At the moment, you cannot use any camera once you're moving over 8 mph. To me, this limits the usefulness of the trailer mounted camera (whether you mount inside or outside of the trailer).
However, someone far brighter than me may have found a fix: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...video-mod.html
So I'll stick the placeable trailer camera from Ford on the rear of the trailer for back-up viewing. Sounds like any camera placed inside the trailer is going to require an extra display in the cab (or on my phone) if I decide to get one. The dealer said that they will do all the camera set-up and trailer TPMS installation, I just have to bring in my trailer.
