Hey everyone
I want anyone to give me their opinion on the best performance parts for a 302. It will be for a 79 Ranchero. I want to know who the best of it all is. I hear that holley has the best carbs for performance, but edelbrock has the best for manifolds and heads. Comp is the best for cams. I want to know if there is better than just going with the edelbrock package with everything made by them. If i combined them would the 302 be better? Thanks
Danny
i wouldnt get too hung up on labels b/c i would concentrate on what u are looking for in specs when it comes to cam and heads. i like the performer rpm for its cost and quality and all edelbrock package is made to work together. i like my holly carb better than any edelbrock carter i had b/c of the adjustability, durability, and performance i got out of it. i could adjust the floats and tune it better. but that is just a opinion. my carter had metering rods or something like that and just the name scared me enough not to touch. the only thing i learned with the pick n choose method versus buying a package is that u better be sure it is what u want before u put it all together and end up being sorry or having a shelf full of cams or heads because u cant decide.. it is fun either way...lol
I have always had good luck with the carter afb 650 carb with mechanical secondaries on my 351 clevelands. My 74 ranch runs real well with that and the edelbrock performer
Not to dodge the question but "best" is a subjective term. What is "best" for your motor depends completely on what you expect it to do, how you intend to use it, what you use it in, what the remainder of the drivetrain is....etc., etc.
