64 vs 65 cab

So I know Ford changed the cab in 1965 to lower the floor which did away with the big built-in steps. My buddy is looking at a supposedly all original 65 4x4 but it has the 61-64 steps. Did this cab change not apply to 4x4s perhaps?

You are correct. The 65 F100/F250 4x4 and 1 ton trucks used the 61-64 cab. The 66 F250 4x4 and 1 ton also used the 61-64 cab. The 66 F100 4x4 used the 65-66 2 whl dr cabs

No it didnt ,or at least early 65 4x4s, and early 65.4x4s feom what ive heard use the same fram as well, so the 352 is bell houseing and front timing chain cover mounted like the 64 and down trucks, also the way and postion of the steering column/how it mounts is 64 and down style also. So you may look at how that engine mounts, i have a 361,391 FT bellhouseing and timing chain cover and water pump on a 390 in my 64 now so i didn't mod the trucks frame at all. But that was done 20 yrs ago on my 64

Thanks for all the info, guys! My knowledge of pre-67 F-Series is somewhat sketchy. So, the cab change that lowered the floor, it would seem this would also necessitate a frame change, is this the first appearance of the "kick-up" in the frame rail as it passes behind the cab to support the bed? This is all conjecture on my part but you guys are confirming some of my beliefs. Since the 65 4x4 used the same front suspension as the 64, and did not go to coil springs until 66, this is why I supposed perhaps the cab change did not follow to the 4x4 in 65. Great info!
