I'm anxious to see what the U.S. version will be like. Give me the supercab, V6 and 4x4 in an XLT or similar and I'd be happy! It will be quite a while before I'm back in the market for a new truck. Maybe by then I can get a good deal on a used Ranger

you can have everything BUT the v6. the euro rangers only have the diesel 3.7 shared with the transit. the sporting model is called the wildtrack. think raptor but without the v8. if you want a petrol engine you are going to have to wait until 2019 or wreck a ecoboost mustang.

Want a V6? Buy a freakin' F-150! What.... FOUR different V6 options now? IMO Ford needs to streamline their powertrains.

"Plain" V6, two different EcoBoost V6's, a diesel V6, and a small V8. Honestly I wish they had two V8 options - 5.0 or 6.2. I really want the new Ranger to get a large displacement (2.5L +) EcoBoost FOUR CYLINDER!

ford DID. the 3.7 diesel in the transit isnt a v6. its a 4 cylinder. and its the ONLY option in the euro rangers. you havent done a lot of fact checking have you?

ford was talking about using the ecoboost from the mustang as a petrol option.

ford stopped making the v6 ecoboost for the mustang as its the: "red headed middle child" in their words and buyers were either buying the ecoboost 4 or the v8 gt.

if you want a v8 you are going to have to get handy with the spanners. as the raptor with the 6.2 is dead. but ford performance did say they were bringing a crate engine big block 572? (yes same numbers as chevy)

Not everyone wants a turbo. Sure many people do, so offer the Ecoboost-4 for those who want it; but also offer a naturally aspirated gas engine for those of us who want tried and true. You can have the diesel, too much maintenance for me. The N/A 3.5 from the Taurus line would be really nice for what I need from this truck

I'm not totally convinced that Ford is going to offer the same engines here that they offer in the UK model. Diesel's over here can be a tough sell sometimes; unless one is talking about heavy duty trucks that are intended for heavy towing. If you look at the light-duty diesel vehicles that are already on the market in the US, they trail in sales compared to the gas/petrol counterparts. For example, the small Duramax diesel in the Chevrolet Colorado does not sell as well as the gas V6 in the same truck. The EcoDiesel in the Ram 1500 does not sell nearly as many units as the gas-powered V6 or V8 engines.
Of course I could be dead wrong too. If I am, we'll know in about 18 months; give or take. I will say this; if Ford does not offer a non-turbo gas engine in the Ranger, I'll be less likely to buy one. I'd either stay with the F-150 or go somewhere else.

At least in the Colorado/Canyon the low take rate for the diesel may be caused by the fact that you can only get it in the higher trim levels, and only in the crew cab, not the extended cab. I think the Ram and F-150 are similarly limited.

what a lot of people on U.S. shores dont realise with a N/A 4 cylinder would make it as powerful as a n/a 4 cylinder mustang fox body.

its a heavy shell for the for the engine to lug around. ecoboost will help this truck a lot better than n/a does. if you want a N/A v6/v8 its all on you. there is already one in australia with a barra turbo 6 engine. sure its a lowrider but it fits.

my feeling is ford is going to have diesel in all its trucks yes even in base level trim.

im going to say ive never been the biggest fan of diesel, as in my country you have to pay road milage on top of 6 month/yearly inspections and fuel for your diesel but this is brilliant marketing from ford. because nobody else does. (yet)

if diesel bothers you that much wait till 2032 and you can import a ford falcon turbo from australia/nz (nz cars have lower kilometers)

The Wildtrak is a sharp-looking truck! If they bring it stateside, it would make a suitable replacement for the old FX4 Level II. From everything I've read online about the Wildtrak, it's a very competent off-roader! I can't say that I would buy one because it will probably be priced beyond what I'm willing to pay for a new truck. Also, I don't want/need the crew cab model. I'd rather have the super cab with a standard-sized bed.

If it doesn't Break $45,000, I'd be interested in a nicely equipped Crew cab / what ever box / 4x4 / 3.2L I5 Diesel / 6 speed Manual.

But I'm sure the chances of the diesel making the cut are slim and a manual transmission is probably a complete fantasy for the US domestic market.

Ah well, guess one could always move to where these vehicles are actually available in such configurations.... or not.
