2004 Hub Replacement

So.

I was plowing snow this morning when all of a sudden I had no 4x4. or should I say VERY little.

I clicked it in and out of 4wd to see if it would re-engage. and Nope. Nothing good. Got out and did a walk around, only to find that my passengers locking hub apparently decided it was a good day to run away from home. (Yes. It is now an empty hole )

Now, before we diagnose why, or where I should preface this by saying that I replaced the wheel hub a while back and the locker fell out after the replacement and had some not perfect gears on it. The locking ring was replaced but obviously that is the culprit somewhere.

So with that being said, I pushed the hub up into a VERY large snowpile someplace. Not exactly sure where and tearing it down is not an option with it's location without being able to re-stack it. (Directly on the side of a main road) So I figure I will just replace it.

So. here is the question. What should i replace it with. Of course this is one of those retarded auto lockers and manual options that seem to work when they want. and ONLY when they want, unless of course they are set to lock.

Should I just get a regular hub? Or is there really a benefit to the Warn replacement kit.

Thanks in advance. I will be ordering today. as of course I dont really want to drive the truck like this.

Take it for what it is worth. I can only say this:

I have broken Ford factory lockout hubs.
I have subjected Warn Premium hubs to the same abuse. They showed no signs of stress.

Thank you Stuart,

What did you do with the Vacuum lock for the OEM hubs?

You mean the line? Just cap it off.

Yep, did it on mine a couple weeks ago. I bought a $2 box of random vacuum caps, unplugged my lines from the plastic elbow where it comes out by the frame and capped it off. Otherwise only your defrost will blow, not the heater by your feet.

A golf tee makes a great vacuum line plug.

So it looks like the Warn's are the replacement of choice I assume? I see a few other brands that I have never heard of..

So thats where I was at. Typically the off name crap gets you what you pay for..

So it's DRW with the Dana 60 front end.

I cannot find a valid fitment chart, nor can I determine if this is a set, or a singular?

Anyone buy them from Amazon?

Amazon Amazon

Amazon has this really cool feature where you set up what vehicles you own, and when you're looking at an automotive part, it will tell you if it fits your vehicle. So when I click on your link, it doesn't say that. When I look at this part:
Amazon Amazon
it says "This fits your 2000 Excursion" at the top of the page with a big green checkmark.

I'm pretty sure both our trucks use the same hub even though I have the Dana 50, but I would enter your vehicle information into your amazon profile and check it. Or maybe someone will come along and confirm which hubs are the right ones.

Actually - just make sure you have the hub on the drivers side, open differential.

I would think they are the same part. I have the Dana 60 with I believe the 35 tooth. It says it will fit. I ordered them anyway.

Hopefully. lol It was a little shocking to find it missing when I looked.

That does not work. An open differential sends power to the side spinning the fastest. If only one side is locked, guess which side spins faster?

The unlocked side, or in this case the side with no hub.

This becomes very noticeable when you frag a hub while out in mud, deep sand, or snow. 3 wheel drive don't work worth a darn.
