2012 6.7, 4x4, SRW, 4" Lift, 35" Tires with 180,000 miles. Question I have is how do you know when it's time to replace the shocks. Mine are original and I don't seem to notice anything that would tell me that they were worn out but it just seems like with that many miles that they would be due. almost all highway miles with around 30,000 miles of towing any where from 2,000-10,000 lbs.
Today is a good day to replace them. Typically Fords O.E. Shocks loose there Re-Bound by 50,000 miles. I do know that when you replace them your truck it will feel like a difference vehicle. I believe the general concences here are either Bilstein 4600/5100's or Rancho 9000's as replacement choices.
These are the originals from the factory. I used a Readylift and did not have to change them out when I did the lift. Bilstein 5100's seem to be the most favored so I think that is what I will go with once it warms up a bit and I can get out and change them.
I changed my shocks on my 2012 F-250 on 12/27/2016. Truck had 86,000 on it, and every single shock, including the steering stabilizer shock had zero rebound. I pushed them in and they stayed in. One shock, (drivers rear) would grind as i moved it in/out.
I wouldnt be shocked if they were shot in under 10k. They suck, they arent even Rancho's from the factory, they are FoMoCo with a rancho sticker. POS's.
My First set of original shocks lasted 18,000 miles, I was able to get them replaced under warranty, second set lasted until 48,000 miles, so 30,000 miles out of that set.
I replaced them with Bilstien 5100's along with the stabilizer. They really improved the ride.
My truck has 42k on it and I plan on replacing the shocks this spring.
It was a pleasure on my 2012 (same as yours). Didn't take any wheels off, could probably be done without a floor jack, no special tools, etc. DIY at home, 1 hour if you have done it before and know right what to do.
