what's up with the whole rust thing anyway, body rust never affected the safety of a vehicle in anyway that i can imagine. Except for the rare occasions it's around the seatbelt bolt.

Meanwhile......Every biker wannabe gets to throttle their Hardly Ablesons through the neighborhood every Sunday morning without a second thought.
...Obviously you dont have a clue...
As an example 3 cities here in Az tried and/or succeeded in passing noise ordinances targeted specific at HARDLY ABELSONS.
...When was the last time someone tried to pass a law specifically targeting FORD or DODGE or etc etc...
...If we dont hang together surely we'll hang apart...
Ya all could lobby to get rid of mandatory vehicle inspections. We did!
South Carolina dropped them years ago since the going rate was a loss to the inspecting shop and we don't care for starting another government agency to do the job.
No significant percentage of privately owned accidents are attributable to mechancial failure anyway, and heavy commercial trucks come under the scope of the DOT.
they're looking under the hood here in NJ now too...for "illegal" mods incl FIPK's SC's, TC's and anything "colorful"...all quoted by a moronic priv contractor inspector..although almost all nationally know brands are 50 state legal; they don't care...more rejections = more re-inspections = more $
Being a motorcycle enthusiast I got used to the noise ordinance, or original exhaust equipment rules for bikes even in non-inspection states.
I was just thrown by the two loud exhaust on the truck seeing has how it was but on by an inspection mechanic to pass the inspection process for last year.
Got it all worked out though taking it back to that shop for inspection and if I get a ticket or hassled then they will put on resonators or replace the mufflers to quiet the truck down.

...I talked a cop out of an excessive noise ticket once by pointing out that:
"legal or otherwise, this was a package I purchased from and installed by a dealership and Ive got receipts to prove it...Now maybe if the dealership is selling illegal exhaust systems perhaps he should be investigating them instead of harrassing me..."
He actually agreed with me...And wrote me a HELMUT ticket instead...
