I made a stand!

and got rid of the cable box. Now I just have 80 channels of pure junk - I would get rid of that too, but for the internet connection bundled with the deal. But, no more digital cable for me.. and i get to save about $45 a month.

Now if I could just figure out how to get rid of the mortgage...

Got the same problem with DirecTV. Total Choice gives me channels I'll never see. Wish they would put together a custom plan where you could pick and pay for only those channels you're interested in.

That is the greatest idea that they have never followed thru on...guess it would cost them too much....i wish I could have a few select channels and then the sports channels....the rest of the trash could just be left off!!

Good job. "Digital" cable TV is a money-making scheme anyway, since traditional television sets cannot reproduce true digital television images anyway. Satellite, cable, digital cable, "rabbit ears", etc.....they are all going to produce the same images on your screen because they are all limited to a certain number of lines of resolution anyway. So now you can save $45 a month to spend on something else...things for your truck maybe!

Several years ago there was a company that allowed you to pick individual channels for your satellite package. I think it was called dish one or something like that. Obviously it wasnt profitable enough as they are no longer around.

I wish they would let you pay by the channel. I could get by with about 3 or 4.

TNN for their weekend Powerblock. Truck TV, Super2ner et al

Discovery for their American Chopper, Monster Garage, American Hotrod

TNT for NYPD Blue and Law n Order reruns

and CBS or NBC for the occasional SNL or Mad TV

Sorry WXboy, but I have to disagree on the lines of resolution remark you made. I have seen HDTV digital cable come in at 1080 -- better picture than a DVD. Up close, you can't even see the pixels. I should mention, however, this requires an HDTV capable TV, ad only a select number of channels come in at 1080.

I will agree, however, that 95% of the channels on the multi-hundred channel based systems like satelite & digital cable are pure junk.

The 2 satellite companies in Canada (StarChoice & ExpressVu) allow you to pick "themes"

You start with their "locals" which is multiple feeds of the CBC, CTV, Global, and independent channels, along with music channels (total of about 100 channels). Then you can either pick "themes", such as news, sports, family, etc or group them together (7 themes) and save some money..kinda neat thing I wish DirectTV & Dish would do

Too bad StarChoice & ExpressVu are not allowed in the US (legally..you have to have a Canadian address)

I just program my box to skip over the channels I don't want, something called "favorite channels feature".
