what a weekend

So some of you may know that I was in Nevada for 3 weeks. My boyfriend was out there for the last week and he was scheduled to come home on Friday and I was to come home on Saturday. Well on Friday he was in an accident on the way home from the airport in my truck. It was pretty bad, they might total the truck. It depends on what they find when they tear it apart. He is fine, he has a few cuts on his head from the airbag but the honda that hit him is demolished! Its a wonder him and the other guy made it out alive! It didn't do a ton of damage to the truck but all the parts that broke are the expensive ones and a lot of people have been saying, "Its a 99, they'll total it" which is less than encouraging. I guess if they total it we have the option to keep it, which I think we will do and then fix it up as we get money. I found another truck similar to mine that would make a good replacement if I end up needing one.

He was making a left turn onto a highway on-ramp in a 35mph zone and the guy coming at him decided that instead of hitting the brakes and missing him he would turn into the same direction that my boyfriend was traveling, t-boning him. I don't know how fast the guy was going but it was fast enough to spin the truck around 270 degrees and shove it down a ravine that was pretty steep. My boyfriend is lucky he didn't roll it. Oh and there were no skid marks from the other guy, like he didn't hit the brakes at all! I only saw the truck once, in the dark from behind a fence. Its funny from the rear it looks okay other than I could see my exhaust hanging on the ground and the passenger side tires came off the bead so its kind of leaning. It also sheared the u-bolts for the rear axle, so that is sitting funny, but the majority of the damage was between the cab corner and the rear wheel, which you can't really see from behind in the dark.

My boyfriend feels terrible. He knows I love that truck, but I was just so glad he was ok! I think everyone kept expecting me to be mad about it or something, but I was just so relieved he wasn't hurt worse....I can get another truck! But we have an insurance policy together so it will be interesting to see what our insurance does after this.

Then on Monday I had to go in to get blood work done. I am registered in the bone marrow donor database and I guess there is a potential match between myself and a 55 year old man with leukemia. I hate having my blood drawn so I was really nervous and the nurses were quite unpleasant. They had to take like 10 viles of blood So of course, much to my embarrassment I cried, but my boyfriend was really sweet about it. Overall not a great experience but I may be helping to save someones life if my tissue matches his, so then we were on to H&R Block to have my taxes done. I got totally screwed this year because of changing jobs and moving to a different state. I thought I would get a pretty decent amount of money back but instead I had to pay in a bunch. AND it cost me $222 to have H&R Block spend 15 minutes drawing up a couple forms. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back. What a bummer way to start the week. Oh and my brother is in trouble with the law again, so we are all worried about him. Its just one thing after another, ya know?

But we have our health I guess, and I'm grateful for that. Things had been going really well for the last few months so I guess it was about time....

You don't appreciate the good til you've experienced the bad, right? I hope you all had good weekends and have been doing well (since I haven't been on much in a while). Take care!

76F250Gal, Sounds like one hell of a weekend. NOT!

Good that your boyfriend is OK. "He" can't be replaced, your truck can.

As for the blood work, good for you for helping someone who is in need.
And there is crying in blood work.

As for H & R Block, A friend of mine, who is a CPA, says they charge by the line,
and it can get expensive.

As for your brother, what can I say? Hope he gets his act together.

Things will look better on down the road.

Your insurance shouldn't go up at all. Did the report say he (the other guy) was totally at fault?

Anyway, like ben said, trucks can be replaced, people can't, although since he wrecked your baby, his butt better stick around forever ....... Or Else!

Yeah we are probably going to get married next year but no ring or anything yet. He joked that he's gonna have to marry me now

As far as fault I'm not sure who's it was. He got a ticket for failure to properly yield but the other guy got a wreckless driving and something like failure to keep vehicle safe.

You guys are right, I can't get another one of him so like I said I'm just glad he's ok!

As for my brother.....he has been doing so much better. He used to be into REALLY BAD stuff and he's had his act cleaned up for about a year now. Its like I have my goofy little brother back again But then he went to a friend's house and there was going to be drinking so he made sure that he and his girlfriend would be able to stay the night so he wasn't drinking and driving. Well at some point in the night a bunch of other people showed up and the guy who's house he was at told him it was too crowded and that they couldn't stay the night anymore, they'd have to leave. So he drove home and of course got pulled over. Its his 2nd DUI and he's not even 21 yet (he will be next week). So I guess he could get max 1 yr in jail...that was scary to hear. As soon as his jail time/probation/whatever is up I offered that he and his girlfriend could come down and live with us to get themselves started. I figured it'd be a nice fresh start but with someone still kinda watching over him. We'll see what happens I guess......

Thanks for the kind words guys

So I'm sitting here this morning knowing darn well I need to get outside and get to work on the back fence before it falls over, but I figure to finish up a cup of coffee and see what's going on on FTE. I almost don't want to admit it, but me eyes are getting misty. Not because your truck got banged up, but I am looking at all the good that is going on here in spite of all the bad.

No doubt your truck can be fixed or you'll get a new one. If insurance totals it, make your boyfriend feel soooo bad that he buys you a new one! Okay but seriously, you have the potential of saving someones life by giving him your marrow. Yes ma'am, it hurt and the nurses were butts but think about what you may be able to do for this guy and his family. Pretty cool stuff.

It's too bad about your brother. Sounds like he really was getting his act together but slipped. It happens but I'm willing to bet with your help he'll do okay. Stay on his butt though and hold his feet to the fire. I'm sure he'll take his licks and come out better in the end. I have a 40 year old brother in law with 4 DUI's under his belt. He got out of prison a month or so ago for the 4th. I do not believe he has learned his lesson. I give him 6 months to a year tops before he gets in trouble again. I also lost a niece this spring to a drunk driver. No one wants to go through that...

Make sure we all get invites to the wedding, and post pictures of the new truck )

I had a sister die of luekiemia 20 years ago. I used to pass out just at the site of a needle. I donated blood for her about 50 times. The first few times I went in, I would pass out and get sick and the whole nine yards.

Point is you do what you know you have to do. In the end my sister died. The tecnology was not there back then.

My wifes sister, has had leukemia for four years. I figured she was a gonner, but with the new knowledge, and so on, she may have whipped this thing.

You have to do what you can. Sure it is unpleasant, but you will get satisfaction in the end!

Bless you.

Thank you. I'm glad I'm doing it. I'm really scared because of my needle issues but I keep telling myself that the patient is probably in a lot more pain than I could imagine and that its very much worth it. I just hope I'm a good match so that his tissue won't reject mine. I'll let you guys know what I find out. Thanks for your support!

It really sucks that your bf got a ticket. Sounds to me like he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught up in some idiot's way. Hope that your insurance does'nt try and put the screws to ya for it. That really blows. As for the truck, hey, I know I'm always on the lookout for a new one... just hate the idea of having the old one wrecked to find another one. I'm sure you feel the same way. Glad to hear the bf's okay, though.

Congrats on being able to possibly save a life. More people should be like you. You are truly a class act.

As for your brother... hey, we all make mistakes. I know I did at his age, and I like to think I grew out of that stage. I'm sure he will, too. Lead him by your example, and he'll do fine.

Well the insurance company totaled the truck. I got a new one this last weekend. Saturday was the boyfriend's bday so we kept joking about me getting such a nice new toy on his bday

I don't know if this link will work or not but I've got pics up of the old truck and the new truck here: http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w314/hickchick628/

As for the bone marrow stuff the health history info all checked out so I'm just waiting to see if our tissues match.

As for my brother his hearing is coming up this week. So I guess we'll see what happens....

That is a sweet truck! Looks like it might work out for the best afterall! Of course, now you have to change your name ot 350gal!

BTW, you are to be commended for setting aside a little pain and inconvience in order to provide a possible better life to someone else
