Question Location of EGR valve

Where is the EGR valve located on a 1997 e150 w/ a 5.4 motor? Is it accessible from the dog box?

From what I read in another Ford forum there is none for that year and engine. Something to do with variable cam timing making it unnecessary.

I did a google search for 'egr location 1997 s.4L e150'.

Results showed images, and advertisements from parts suppliers. My guess is there is indeed such a beast and you need to look at some images to realize what you are looking for?

It can be a bit frustrating getting the info you need sometimes but hang in there.

No VVT on a 2v Triton motor sorry. Item C1068 is what you are looking for.

From what I have read, it depends on the exact type of 5.4 engine.
So perhaps we need to know exactly which engine he has in the van. If it is a 5.4 2V it should have a EGR.

Here is a short article about them.
Exerts:
Just as a quick reference if you are unfamiliar with Ford Triton engines; Three different variations 97-up. The 5.4L 2 valve only has a total of 16 valves for all cylinders, smaller valve covers, does not use a variable valve timing system. The 5.4L 3 valve with variable valve timing outperforms that engine in every way, producing 15ft.lbs more torque and around more 40hp. There is also a 4v, but we wont be getting into there here.

From this point on, I will be using VCT to refer to variable cam timing. VCT is a way to juggle both the need for high torque and the need for engine efficiency. On some vehicles, including the 5.4L 3 Valve, VCT is controlled so that it also replaces the EGR system.
Variable Cam Timing

Just came across this topic in which YoGeorge :
The vans never got the 3 valve engine whereas the pickups had the 3 valve 5.4 from 2004-2010 and the 3 valve 4.6 in 09-10 I think, but the 2 valve 4.6 was also available.

Conanski posted while I was reading around.., He must have known it would be the 2V..

Thanks! It is indeed a 5.4 motor. Should be easy to access through the dogbox....

Thanks for the drawing...makes it much easier w/ a visual guide. Should be easy enough to replace by going through the "dog box"!
