So this past weekend, after spending Saturday replacing the rear brakes on my F350, my truck decided it didn't want to try out the new shoes and won't start. When I turn the key you can hear the fuel pumps come on, the relays click but there is no signal going to the starter solenoid. I've been having problems with the transmission range sensor which I am almost 100% positive it is causing this no start. I have replaced it twice and both times the backup lights don't always come one and a couple of times I had this problem of not starting. I noticed if I wiggle the lever be hand at the transmission the backup lights will work. It's as if something electrical internally is screwed up. So, in my engineering creativeness, I installed a push button starter switch in the ashtry to bypass the ranger sensor until I can dive deeper into the problem. Between the electrical issues and the hard shifting with this transmission I'm about ready to swap it to a 5spd. Then again with this being a CA truck it wouldn't be that easy. Has anyone ever run into this problem of not starting?
Your issue is most likely the MLPS as you previously stated. You should also check the two torx head screws at the bottom of the steering column where the shifter attaches. Those frequently come loose.
