Injectors for towing?
90 degree adapter from Diesel O-rings
Gasoila thread sealant
Install post filter on lower port passenger side
My choice is new PIS based on what I have seen. If I were forced to go with reman for some reason, I would go Unlimited Diesel (lifetime warranty) or Rosewood to rebuild the very same injectors I took out of the truck to the specifications I desired. I would not hesitate to throw an extra $150 down when you are talking nearly $2K in parts.
Single shot injectors is the way to go, hands down.
On a side note, seriously consider the KC38R over the 38R, it is a very nice drop in turbo.
I'm not really considering reman or rebuilt injectors.
My employee stock purchase plan has been doing REALLY well the past year - our stock has more than tripled. I was pretty surprised when I looked at it yesterday. This round is on me!
A 38R will get the job done just fine, the KC38R is a better choice, but only if it will not land you in jail.
Keep us posted on what you decide to do and how the projects come along. I am very interested to see pictures and thoughts on your progress.

It is rebuild-able, but one has not failed as of yet, this is coming from both Corey at CNC and KC turbos. It comes with a billet wheel, a .84 or 1.0 housing and high flow outlet. I see it as a beefed up 38R that someone took the time to design, balance and ship to me as a drop in alternative.
I know the 38R has a proven track record, but just because something has "always been done that way" does not mean it is the best way to get the job done as of today. I plan to get a KC38R when it comes my turn to remove the stock turbo and have complete confidence that it will be a great product.
The 38R is right under $1250 from RiffRaff and the KC38R is right under $1500, so the price is comparable in my opinion. Add a billet wheel on the 38R, and they are just about dead even.
Again, the information available to us as consumers is next to nothing because it is a new design. There are some FTE members that are running them, and some second hand experiences with FTE members seeing them in other owners trucks and liking what they see.

I would not have considered clearing a turbo replacement with my smog station. I will have to check with them when the time comes although the 38R is no slouch and I would have 'Garrett' stamped on the housing to cover my bases.
That conversation would NOT go well with my wife..."honey, you know the car part I bought for $1500? Well...I just failed the smog check because of it and I have to take it off this weekend." I would be sleeping in the garage under the bench where that KC38R was sitting...and that would be the best case scenario!

If it failed, you could just swap the old turbo back on for the test. It's only every 2 years and it's not THAT much work to swap turbos.

I've decided to go all-in and I'm placing the order this week. Just waiting on some financial stuff to settle. Injectors, turbo, the works. About $6100 in parts. Once I have everything back together, I can sell my Mini which will pay for the JW trans.
I will keep you all informed, and I probably will have a ton of questions. Hopefully I will have the smarts to ask the right ones.

Mini? Like a Mini car? It doesn't happen to be an antique from the 60's or so like the one in the picture below does it?
My wife had one of those when we were stationed in England and it was a blast to drive. 998cc engine, the suspension was pretty much the body welded to the frame and you sat about 8 inches off the ground. It was incredibly nibble going around a round about.
I am excited for you to get all of the goodies for your truck installed and fire it up the first time for a test ride. I even told my wife that you will not stop smiling for a month.
Keep us informed with how things go and if you need advice along the way.
It's an 08 with a factory turbo. Puts out about 170 hp. It corners, accelerates, and brakes like a roller coaster. Third gear is my favorite - it gives the turbo enough time to spool up and pull hard before you have to shift again.
I don't know how I haven't gotten a ticket in it yet. It's so much fun to drive.
You can count on being kept informed on my work with the truck.
