I wonder why Ford left this off on the 2017. I believe on my 2016 JD you can go to an "engine page" and observe the % of the re-gen done. At least it gives you an idea of how much longer it will take to finish.
I'm no expert or engineer, but that is what I believe I've observed on mine. Sometimes the regen isn't done, but I'm at my exit. I pull off and get to my destination and shut down. When I get out I hear lots of ticking (I'm assuming it's the cooling of the superheated metal).
When I get back on the interstate to go home, the mileage sucks until it doesn't.
I also read somebody here (can't remember who) that said this is exactly the way it works.
Robert, Thanks for the reply. I guess it's something I won't worry about. But another question, have you any idea how many miles you get between re-gens? I was surprised my JD went 165 hours before the 1st re-gen. Al

I think about once per tank (I have the higher capacity tank) -- just a guess.
I asked a lot of questions in the diesel forum and they general response was, just enjoy your truck, and if you see the dreaded message to drive your truck, take you wife on a nice truck ride and be done with it.

MY2017 F450 has a % gauge, so you can tell the status of the particulate filter, either filling up or being cleaned. So far every 600-800 miles it goes into regen.
