I recently bought a 2012 F250 with the 6.7 and have some filter questions. Do most of you use only Ford filters or has anyone had good success with other brands? I have been told that fuel filters especially should be Ford but the Ford filter is quite a bit more expensive but I don't mind buying them if they will do a better job. Also how far do you run the oil and fuel filters between changes?
Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.
Filters are extremely important when it comes to the diesels. Are the filters for the 6.7, 6.4, and 6.0's expensive... yes and Ford makes a good return on them. IMHO I wouldnt use anything but the Ford filters.
Diesel engine are very very expensive to repair and even more so if you have to replace one. The Filters that are FoMoCo are designed for the engine to achieve the best results and of course are all patented, so I wouldn't chance using anything else.
FoMoCo is very very picky when it comes to warranty work on theses engines, and last thing you want is them to point to some aftermarket filter and say, oh there the problem or something like that. The Filters are a crucial thing to helping these engines last long, I wouldnt use anything different in them I havent heard anyone say they have had a bad experience with the Ford filters... other when it comes time to pay for them...lol.
I usually will ask the parts guys if I buy say x numbers of this and this what kind of a deal will you give me, usually they will give you a break. I also keep an eye out for when they are having a special or a deal on them and grab a bunch when they do
