Volume increase on CD-6 after starting

I have installed the CD-6 indash CD changer from a 2003 Ford Ranger in my 2000 F150. Every now and then I will start the truck and the volume will be louder than what it was when I turned the engine off. Any known reason for this?

Are you sure that it is actually louder? After listening to the radio while driving, you will become accustomed to the sound level w/ the ambient road and vehicle noise. When you get out of the vehicle and back in again, often you will find that the radio volume seems a lot louder than it was before...

Do you see on the display an increased volume level, or does it just seem to be louder to you? If its the former, then you definitely have a problem. If its the latter, then I second AlabamaBronco and say that you might be suffering from a Temporary Threshold Shift when you leave your truck and just not know it.

You know, like when you get into your truck the morning after a kickin' concert and say, "Who the turned up my stereo?!?"

Thanks for the replies, yes the volume is louder on the display. I use my truck for work and I spend a lot of time sitting in it while others work , when I start the truck is where the occurrance is. Not always, thou. Is there a speed adjusting feature with 2003 radios.

Some of the radios do have a feature which INCREASES the volume at speed in order to compensate for increased noise. To tell if you have it, push and hold in the volume **** for about 10 seconds. Display will read "speed volume 2" or something similar. Use the rocker switch to increase or decrease the effect.

Volume increase on CD-6 after starting

I noticed this on mine last night. I was listening to the radio in the Dairy Queen drivethrough with the engine off because it was taking those kids forever to make my sandwhich. When they gave me my order, I started the engine and the radio got louder. I pulled over to a parking lot and turned the truck off, and the volume decreased. I never touched the radio the whole time.

So you are right...it does compensate somehow. But I tried the trick of holding the volume button down for 10 seconds and nothing happened....so ????

Yes, I tried holding the volume button and got no response, but I have the same reaction with my radio. I am sometimes parked near operating backhoes or loaders.
