I just bought 2 volfenhag 12's 1000 watts apeice i also bought a bandpass box for them to go in! i have a legacy 1600 watt amp! 4 channal bridgeable the speakers is able to be set up for 2 omh , 4 omh or 8 omh! i had it set up for 8omh but no sound came out so now it is at 2 omh and it will hit but not hard! and distourts in med range sounds! what should i do? i can still set it up for 4 omh but would that help? i also have crossovers should i use them?
Prefab bandpass boxes are a bad idea. This box alone will make the distortion audible quite easily. Bandpass designs are so tricky, that a box should be built only by an experienced user. On top of that, the box has to be made/tuned for those particular subs in mind. Unlike sealed, a "universal" design that sounds good with all subs doesn't, nor ever will, exist. If you want to try and get the best out of that bandpass, I guess, you'll need to tell us the rms rating of the amp, the power levels at varying impedances (at the amp), and what the voice coil configuration is on the subs (dual 2, dual 4, single 4, etc.). Then we can tell you exactly how to wire the subs, tell you how to correctly set the gains, and how to correctly set the crossover.
Honestly, you're best bet would be to build/buy a properly designed sealed box, or make a ported box (stay away from prefab ported, too). What is the model number on those subs...some of might be able to tell you exactly which box to use.
well i know that the amp is a 1600 by 4 channel each channel is 400 watts the subs are duel 4 omh i just went out and played with it a lil bit and got it to hit 10 X harder then it was last night and all i did was take the speakers back out and hook both 4omh connecters up instead of one like i had lastnight! i'm still playing with the setting of the amp/cdplayer u have any suggestions there? (the box is perfsional built by Q logic) my cd player is a poineer 45watt x 4
If your amp is stable at 2ohm bridged here is what you do. On one sub wire both voic coils together (paralell) to the connector on the box. Be sure you dont cross the wires. Now plug the positve wire to the Left of channel one and the negative wire to the right of channel two. Do the same for the other speaker and ch 3/4 of the amp.
the amp is stable at 2 omh bridged but distorts i just found out that with the bandpass box you have to trim the port tubes to adjust for the speakers and i was given a chart to determen the proper length of the ports that might help! but i'ma a rookie whn it comes to getting the best sound! i can install them all day and get good sound and not have a problem its getting the best sound that i want, that i cant figure out! the more i play the more i figure out! so any advice given is all greatfull!
