Hi, How much weight is too much ? 1990 f-250 4x4 non duelly with air bags. And in great shape. Has worked well with big alaskan camper probably about a ton. Would like to get a 2,800lb camper.
Thanks--Norm

Reason: add some words
The tires are the weak point. The Sterling 10.25 fully floating axle which you most likely have is /really/ stout.
If the tires look like they are under too much stress, buy a spacer and just mount dually wheels to it.
My dad's got an 88 f-250 4x4 which the PO did just that, for the exact same reason. So it's a 4x4 dually, with a non-dually axle and adapter blocks. It's held up just fine - the bearings in the dually axle and non-dually axle are exactly the same, and pretty large as axle bearings go.
Ive hauled 250 gallon totes in my F250 with molasses with no problems, stuff is like 12 lbs a gallon. Squatted her down good, but lots of room before the bump stops. Most 10 ply tires are around 3000 lb weight rated, my supercab is like 2400lbs "empty" on the *** end with toolbox and stuff, so you have lots of room there. The SRW sterling is rated at 6250, and the F250 has a max gvwr of 8600.
Now, the real problem i think youre going to find is how squirrelly it will feel from being so top heavy.
