Sync 3 Crashed

This is my second truck with Sync. The last one was a 2010 F150 with Sync by Microsoft. This ran perfectly. However, the maps never updated and after 6 years of highway changes I was driving through cornfields most of the time.

Just got my 2017 SD with Sync 3 and it is working ok. Connectivity with my iPhone is a bit sketchy.

Today I got in the truck to go home from work and the system seemed to freak out just a bit. The maps never loaded and it just had a circle spinning on the screen and the phone kept connecting and dropping. Some of the controls were non functional and the home button did not work.

Just reboot it! I stopped the truck and tried turning everything off and back on - no change.

I managed to get to Settings - General - and did a Master Reset That completely restarted the system. It has been working fine ever since.

I have since found out that Microsoft lost the contract to Research In Motion (RIM) - the same guys that gave you the Blackberry.

Has this happened to anyone else?

You can also try to hold power and forward seek.

Apparently, that also resets it.

And no, you are not alone brother.

Mine has crashed once as well. The sync 2 I had in the last truck I had to disconnect the batteries for a hard boot a few times a year.

I second that. Disconnect the batteries and let it sit for a couple minutes. Should do the job. Had that happen on my '13 as well.

Correct. So many people apparently complained about the MyFord Touch interface as being non-intuitive, slow, and glitchy...that Ford dumped MS and Sync3 is using a Blackberry OS.

I had 2 trucks with MyFord Touch and now this truck with Sync3. I never had any of them crash.

My take is that I really liked, and prefer, the Microsoft / MFT system using "quadrants" which are very intuitive in my opinion. MFT had several things that were better - it would always display information! If you were on Navi, phone, or climate...the audio info would still be displayed down in the audio quadrant. The Home button was larger and located in a much better position at the bottom of the screen.

That said, it was slow...particularly Nav. Sync3 is much faster. You can sense the more powerful processor in the background. The pinch / swipe features are nice. So far, so good with reliability. Voice recognition is much better on the new system.

Don't disconnect the batteries to reboot the Sync, just pull the fuse for it. Disconnecting the batteries resets the transmission adaptive learning and also resets all the emission readiness monitors and there are probably others.
I've had some issues with my sync. I'd pull the fuse for about 10 sec then plug it back in and all would be good again.

With Sync 2 I sure wish I had thought of that. I am hoping that the new OS wont get messed up like Windows Embedded did. I worked with Windows embedded at work for years so I know how things could go bad.

My biggest gripe is that you can't see your climate control settings when it shuts off!

I haven't driving my truck since that day, so it hasn't happened to me again.

the Power and Forward Seek button is a cool feature. I will try that if it happens again.

Thanks all.

That exact thing happened to me this evening on the way home. Halfway home I noticed the map still showed me parked where I started the truck. At a light I restarted the truck and the map never loaded with the phone connecting/disconnecting.

I used the master reset. When it does it again I am going to try the power - seek thing mentioned earlier.

Whoever thought including climate in an infotainment module was a good idea needs to be shot.

I find it more trouble to use sync to adjust the climate. I just reach and change it if needed. The only time I use the voice function is the navigation while moving.

My infotainment system will not update and has lost audio on everything. It will come back when starting up cold, but after 2-7 minutes the sound starts crackling and then it shuts off completely. It will intermittently come on after that but its annoying as hell. Tried master reset, no change. Ford is replacing the whole unit.

While this does not help you all. I was told the dash resetting is a good thing as it finds an error code and reboots. What the error code is no one knows but any error code will trigger a reboot.

When it does not reset is a problem. Not sure if it helps but... seems I am the king of electrical bugs on these forums. My trucks still broke after 8 weeks.
