Thanks I'll check it out when I'm putting it back together . It's a 3 speed. Not sure what they call that one. seems to be pretty good. Clutch feels good just have that shake when you give it gas. In neutral or in gear. Kinda feels like it's around the back of the motor.
Ford type 3.03 3 speed manual all syncromesh transmission.
did you get this cleared up Tommyrog?
Had a friend with the same issue and it was definitely the wrong flexplate. It actually idled pretty reasonably, but once it got to 1100rpm or so, the shakes started. By the time you were at 2000 rpm you knew this was not OK to drive at all and had to be fixed.
The proper imbalance flexplate did the trick.
This is a good argument for making different allowances when making a new part. The manufacturer should never have allowed the same fitment on such different parts. Sure, it's cool that 351 and 302 dampers interchange (though not cool enough to help with the bad parts!) but to have an early 302 interchange with a later one and go on like it was meant to be there, but not run worth a darn, is not a good thing.
Even the bolt pattern for the crank should have changed. Go ahead and let 351 and early 302 flywheels interchange, but as soon as they had a different balance they should never have been allowed to intermingle.
That, or AT THE VERY LEAST(!) all be clearly marked.
I know we give Ford a hard time for having so many things that are not interchangeable, but in this case it would have been fully justified to make their fitment different.
Oh well.... Anyway, curious if you got yours deal with Tommy.
