Hi everybody,
I am in the process of putting a 78 302 into my 79 f-150 4x4. The question is with the flywheel - I found out that I have the wrong flywheel. I have the one from the 80's which is the wrong balance for my 78. If I were to have the 80's harmonic balancer would I be able to use this flywheel (I have access to a used balancer much cheaper than a new flywheel).
Also, do you think I should check to see that they put the appropriate crank into my 302 (old crank was shot)? Is there a possibility that the would have put a newer crank into my block?
Its not really a part number, its an engineering number. You cna have your assembly balanced to any weight. It just costs a lot more. You probably won't see a crankshaft with a number other than, say, D3ab... or E1te... but your block will have the complete Engineering number. Most fords have it cast right above the starter.
