I paid through the nose for a genuine Ford truck flywheel for a '91 302. What arrived was this:
Casting No: E8TR-6375-BA
Is it me, or is that a 28 oz. slug? Is there anyone with a good experience with an aftermarket flywheel out there? I had one on order but gave up after waiting 3 months. Have to wait until Tue. to see if I can exchange this for a 50 oz., but not so sure it's a possibility.
It could be the right one, from the Motorsports catalog the Ford part number for a 50oz 302 flywheel is M-6375-B302. Is there a part number on the packaging?
OK.. in the catalog part # M-6375-C302 is also a 50oz 157 tooth flywheel except in Billet steel for 1981 and later 302 engines. My catalog is an '05 so it's possible the parts numbers have changed.

Hmm - but the official currency of FTE is 164 tooth, right? Ford Racing doesn't have that.
Unfortunately, none of the pics there are of the side with the balance casting for comparison. If the pics I've dug up on FTE are any indication, I have the 28 oz flywheel. Honestly, if I had the scratch, I'd just start this over with a 351 to fit the flywheel!
E8 is an 1988 casting number so if they switched to 50 in 1981 it should be right. The Ford racing part numbers seem to use a totally different system than the standard ones they all start with M instead of the normal date prefix. Looks like its just a standard Ford flywheel instead of a Ford Racing one.

Thanks johnboy. The reason I'm doubtful about the weight is TigerDan's post with pics at the top of the forum. Anyway, not why this didn't come up in searches the other night, but NumberDummy sheds another ray of light here. If I read this right, E8 is indeed an '88 casting; however, 50 oz. is the E8TE casting, and the E8TR casting I have is a 28 oz 351 flywheel.
Sorry to turn this into a blog of my own confusion, but according to the dealer, E8TR-6375-BA crosses to a later model 302 truck motor. I'm hoping NumberDummy or someone will swoop in with any specifics to the contrary, but if this is a 50 oz flywheel, it sure blows a hole in the widely published "you can tell by looking at the size of the imbalance" theory!
Thanks NumberDummy! This appears to be sorted out, and the correct wheel is ordered. (That would be E8TZ6375D, riiiiiiiiight?) Oh, the cussin' this will save me...
