Side to side should be near zero, that's any direction but in and out, radial movement is bad. In and out is OK, lateral should be small, but some is acceptable. But the high EGTs, radial movement and being able to only hit 19psi, needs addressed. It could be that you need a tune, why it's a smokey bugger, that should also remove some of the lag, but your leaving a lot on the table at that low of boost.
i have three tunes from river city diesel (tow, performance, and race) tow and performance has the same problem as my stock tune does, race performs like my sct performance does just with much more black smoke then i have one from mpt called perfecon and it has the same problem as stock tune, are they any you would recommend i try, i dont know if i mentioned it but i did change the pcm too but it didnt change anything the only sensors i havent touched are the cam, crank and the ipr other than those all the senors are new but it seems like number wise everything is where it needs to be except boost?
I've been thinking pretty heavy... short of a good exhaust leak, I believe you have a turbo that just isn't spinning correctly. Could be tolerances are to tight or something.
Indications are heavy smoke.... that shows not enough air is being fed cylinders, like it's over fueling. Higher EGTs also indicate heavy fuel, tunes are normally written to stretch the combustion burn time to achieve a longer, more complete burn. Extra fuel that doesn't burn in the cylinder burns in the exhaust on its way out, why it raises EGTs.
I'd recommend three things and if it we're my truck, would 1) send an oil sample off to Blackstone to have checked for fuel dilution. Anything more than about 2.5% would show heaving fueling, more than normal, although Ford says 4-5% is acceptable from oil change to oil change. However, it causes turbo shaft wear and isn't really good for longevity. Cost is about $25
2) I'd buy a pack of smokes... maybe Lucky's, if they still make them? And then I'd find something to hold it about 2-3 foot long and take a lighted smoke and pass it around the exhaust joints, flexible coupling on the up-pipes, turbo joints and all the CAC tubes/boots on the discharge side of the compressor.... just to be sure there are no leaks. They can hide easily in folds of the boots and joints that have slipped. A leak would puff the smoke.
3) If this isn't your daily, I'd send the turbo in to get looked at. It should make more than 19lbs easily... something isn't right with that number. If there are no leaks or restriction in the piping, its getting good oil, it should spin. And using different tunes, should produce different power levels... it didn't, it just smoked... which means not enough air.
And all the tunes only get you 19lbs? And smoke or more smoke? Extra fuel requires extra air.... my thoughts anyway. You could swap a different turbo into her.
Does the MAF sensor equate in any way to boost? In the first post he mentions a cold air intake. Is it plugged in? It's possible he may need a new MAP sensor. Maybe Yahiko could post a PDF on the test procedure for the MAP sensor.
He's running an 03', it's using a default EBP number, not the sensor. MAP is how its monitoring boost numbers. Normally MAP-BARO=BOOST. The EBP helps determine when the boost comes on and when to shut it down... like when you mash the peddle.
MAF sense's flow, probably wouldn't hurt to clean the sensor, use a MAF sensor cleaner, spray it on.
But if it wasn't plugged in or functioning correctly, it would have coded. I left mine unplugged on purpose to test it, coded right away. He doesn't have any codes.
His map is showing a number that when subtracted from BARO equates to boost... 19lbs.
Being I've had a problem with my turbo and been researching all the pids,Randy is correct, you have a issue with the turbo. I figured mine was a sensor since I had rebuilt it earlier in the the year, but sure enough it was fubar, I'd check the turbo.
my thought was turbo too.. it had the 11 blade exhaust side, i thought maybe it was just done for so i got a 10 blade exhaust side stock from a different 03, but with both turbos the problem remained, i have a mechanical boost gauge and it reads the same as the programmer maybe 1 pound off, i still think its turbo or compression realated because the turbo is just too quite it dosent sound like any other 6.0 ive heard. ive had nothing but problem since buying this these really debating on a new motor this one just seems to have a demon in it and dont forget all the sensor on the truck are new but the cam, crank and ipr
