I apologize in advance if this is not the place but I have to ask....how many opinions are there regarding Key West? Or maybe a bit closer to Miami? Key Largo? Miami? We're registered at a campsite that has quite a few negative reviews. Camping is a great way for folks without a lot of money to have fun.....and most of the negative reviews seem to be describing these people. Can't blame people for having fun....but I go crazy when 10pm rolls around and people are still partying. And if that continued even later....I'd have even more problems.
With that said, does anyone have experience down there and have any recommended sites? Currently we have a week reserved at Sunshine RV Resort. Again....lots of negative reviews.
One of my top favorite sites. Under new ownership, local law enforcement patrolling and their own security. No loud music after 10 or 11pm. Never had any issues staying there. Frequent visitor. Get campsite with direct access on the beach and PUMPOUT. Not all have PUMPOUT. 18-22 (if I recall correctly now) is our favorite picks.
I think what happens, those that have bad experiences with loud neighbors are more likely to leave a review. I think we have to experience it down there....even if we end up saying we like Destin more!
I do appreciate your response. We're having a hard time getting an exact site though. We've paid for an elite/waterfront site but they can't guarantee where that site will be???? I'm going to call again and see if I can sweet talk them a bit. So far my wife has been the one calling.
There were times that we opted not to stay there due to wild and crazy parties. That has completely changed with new ownership. Get a confirmed site number (actual site) in email in writing. If not they are overbooking like airplanes do and they hope someone don't show. The site makes the weekend and the trip worthwhile and AMAZING or can ruin the whole weekend. We only get direct ocean access sites (no mangrove trees in the way or muck) or we wait for another weekend or go across the street to Bahia HONDA State Park with ocean access.
Good timing on this thread -
We are planning on being at the Keys end of March-early April. this is all great info!!!! We have Panama City Beach scheduled for a couple of weeks in February, and plan on working out way down to the keys...
We have been to Jolly Roger in Marathon Key a few times and like it a lot. Its on the gulf side and there is just one spot big enough for a 5er of 40' like ours but several for shorter TT's also right on the gulf. We use to have a 27' TT that fit easily into one of those.
