5th wheel hitch advice

Hi guys, ordered a 17 F350 long bed and looking to get a new hitch. I think I want a demco hijacker (8550033) for my factory prep kit. I like the wrap around jaw. I had a 18k ford (Reese) im my last truck and didn't care for it. too noisy. I know alot of people like the anderson and pullrite tripod hitch. I do not like the adptor that needs to be installed onto the king pin or the fact that it could dent my aluminum bed.
Anyone use a demco? Do you like it? Any negatives? Any alternatives?
I tow a 16 fuzion 414 (43.5 L) 18K lbs
Thanks

Well for that big of a trailer I would have ordered a diesel but of course that's your decision, but I hope you ordered 4.30 gears for that gasser. As far as the hitch and again for that big of a rig I wouldn't have anything but an airbag type hitch. I did a lot of research on 5th wheel hitches and decided on a Hensley TS3 air bag hitch for ours.

Luckily I found a like new 4 yr. old unit and I couldn't believe how nice our 5th wheel rode, no bouncing or chucking. These TS3's aren't cheap but if you can find a good used one you'll save some money. Unfortunately there are 2 cons....you'll need their adapter to mount the hitch to the Ford factory underbed puck system and they are HEAVY, you'll need an engine hoist or the like to get it in and out of the bed, about 315 lbs. Good luck with whichever you choose

Our Ford/Reese 18k does not make any noticeable noise pulling our 10k trailer. You may have been too close to the capacity of the hitch.

Dan,

I've been running the Demco 21K Hijacker autoslide since about this time last year when I bought the Cardinal in my signature. It was my first 5th, and I wasnt sure if I needed a slider or not, but am glad I went withe Demco autoslide. I just dont have to worry now, and I've been in some pretty tight sites. I like the jaws in that they wrap around, and then also have a slide bar that closes after that. So there is no question on whether its fully locked or not. If there is a downside, its the sheer weight of the hitch. I had to install a chain hoist from harbor freight in my garage to be able to lift it in/out of my truck for the winter season when I put my tonneau cover on.

I'm very happy with the hitch, both etrailer, and dyers rv had great online prices.

I see you are in MIchigan. I'm on the west side.

EDIT: I see you have the longbed, and didnt realize they made a non-slide hijacker as well. Looks to be the same head though, so my comments should still help.

Good luck!

Yes the locking arm and wrap around lock is what sold me on it. Yes weight is a concern, i have a chain fall in my garage to get it in and out, so shouldn't be a problem.
I wont be towing as often now, i put my camper on a seasonal site in Hopkins.
Thanks for the feedback.
