When I get to about 50 mph the speedometer starts jumping back forth. I have replaced the sensor in the rear end with no change. I plan to find a gauge cluster with a tach from a 92 or 93 to replace the original that has only a speedometer. Maybe replacing the speedometer will solve the problem. Any other possibilities? 1993 f150 5.0 e4od
Thanks

Reason: ad truck info
You'll lose your mileage if your swap out the speedo. You might try checking the continuity and resistance of the wiring between the VSS and the back of the speedo. You should also inspect the circuit board on the speedo. They can be repaired, but I don't know how or where that info is.
I don't really care about the mileage as I plan on having the truck for a long time. I do want to have the tach so I will probably change that out before I start tracing wires.
If your problem is in the speedometer head itself you can swap out the unit and not lose the accumulated mileage on the odometer; as the circuit board (which stores the accumulated mileage data) can be removed along with the digital display and swapped onto the back of the replacement speedometer head. It is somewhat intricate work but can be done. If your digital (LCD) display has some failed character segments you can change that as well with losing your accumulated mileage data. One note here some may already know but others may not: This circuit on these trucks will only record up to 399,999.9 miles then they roll over to 000,000.0 and start over. My 95 F350 has rolled over twice and will probably do so again later this year as it now has 569,???.? miles documented.
I had this issue and changed everything you could to fix problem and it still existed. I came back to this forum and found a article on the sensor replacement. It stated to not buy aftermarket sensors as the slightest difference in clearance on the back one would end up not fixing the problem. I like alot of people bought a aftermarket one originally and like I said I still had the problem. So after reading the article I ordered the original equipment replacement and installed it and my problem went away
