I am going to buy a used speedo from the boneyard as there is a problem with the original.
Are there different gears for a A4OD transmission?
If anyone knows where I can have my original speedo repaired and recalibrated please inform me. I live in Mid-Missouri but I will send it anywhere in the Continental 50.
Thanks!
Mark
P.S. I neglected to mention that the truck is 5.0 litre with a 3:55 rear end.
I think your answer would be NO.
But I have never heard of a A4OD transmission.
My bad: E4OD sounds better right? I will either dyno it to check the accuracy of the speedometer or use the mileage markers on the Interstate setting the Cruse Control on 60mph and timing each mile; one minute.
If you are just replacing the speedo head, then there's nothing to recal. Unless you change out the whole speedo cable and drive gear, then it's a simple matter of swapping the speedo gear(inside tail of tranny) and keeping your original gear.
As for "changing" the mileage to reflect yours, it could be done by taking apart the odometer....... delicate parts in there and time is not good with plastic gears of the odometer.
If you have to change the speedo, and don't have a factory tach, now is the time to swap one in! 87 to 89 years F150 to F350 and full size Bronco are plug and play.

If you ever do need a recalibration or repair, Metro Speedometer in Independence MO does that. Just google them for address and number.

Do you have to use 87 to 89 stuff or will other years fit?

Hello eakermeld and good morning.
That is a very good question. I have read that some early 90's speedometer will fit but I do not know. oldfuelinjection.com has a good introduction page stating what year Ford came out with a change/new design etcetera.
I learned that the 1987 was the first year for an EFI system.
I am going to the boneyard today for an 3G Alternator and an Idler Pulley for the Air Pump.
87 to 91 speedometer is the same. what is wrong with the speedometer in your truck?
this is a cable driven unit. if it does not work it may be the cable or gears in the trans. very rarely does the speedometer gauge assembly itself go bad.

It is inaccurate the last time I checked. Currently, it is disconnected until I decide what to do. One of our members gave me a lead on a shop that will calibrate the speedometer. I will call them and see what they can do.
you can not calibrate a mechanical speedometer. you can change the gear on the end of the cable going into the trans to change the speed it reads, but that is it.
Actually, the EFI engines were introduced in 1986 in the F-series, as an option not standard. You had the choice of either carb or EFI, which was special order. My father-in-law has a 1986 F250 that came from the factory with the 5.0L 302 EFI. Starting in 1987 was when all were EFI my research/knowledge tells me. If I'm wrong let me know but I know what my FNL has and drives.

I do not doubt this. There is a page in oldfuelinjector.com that has information regarding when/what was introduced; for example the EFI etcetera.

Actually in 87 the 302-V8 and 300-6 were EFI standard, but the 351 and 460 were carb standard, then they all were switched to EFI standard in 88
