Ok here goes. I recently replaced the front wheel hub and upper and lower ball joints on the the driver side of my 2004 f250 CC SB 6.0 fx4. Now when I put into 4 wheel drive I get a grinding noise that sounds like a worn out break pad from that side only. It didn't do it before and it only happens in 4x4. I have replaced the wheel hubs before and it was fine. Also The needle bearing race on the axle is good.
If someone could give me some insight, that would be great.
Are the ball joints greasable? The 04 & earlier trucks have smaller knuckles and you can not install grease fittings in the ball joint or it will hit the axle u-joint.
How was the u-joint when you had the axle apart? Any binding?
Did you clean and inspect the locking hubs? Did you overpack it with grease so that it is not engaging properly and instead grinding?

Yes they are greasable. No the zirk fittings aren't installed. That's why it is confusing. I only put a small amount of grease in the locking hub.
