Im getting ready to order the triple gauge kit from dieselmanor.com and had a quick question. They have an option to tap the exhaust manifold or to tap the turbo up-pipe for $11 more. Which option would be the best way to go?
it all depends on which way you want to go. most people tap the manifold to get a pre-turbo reading which most believe is most accurate. but there are a few that put it post turbo, sometimes the reading is not as accurate. i have both, and noticed sometimes when the pre is at 650 the post is at 350, and sometimes its at 550. imo the pre is better but thats just me
The two options that you have are pre-turbo or post-turbo. Pre-turbo would be tapped on the exhaust manifold (usually drivers side) just before it enters the up-pipe. Post-turbo would be just as the exhaust exits the turbo on the down-pipe. Pre-turbo is usually preferred as it does not have the temperature fluctuations under various conditions like post-turbo will see and is basically more accurate. Post-turbo will cause you to start guessing as to what your cylinder temps really are. Go pre-turbo.
i ordered the short block from diesel innovations, and they said it will come with forged rods. got the short block looked at it and seen it had pmrs in it. called david and he said he had no idea how it happened, but he overnighted me a set of forged rods and gave me a discount on my headstuds for my labor. ive still got the pmrs in a box that came out of the new shortblock and still got the blown up block. my girlfriend keeps buggin me, she wants me to plant flowers out front of our house, so im gonna take the old block fill the clyinders with dirt and put flowers in em. shes gonna be pissed, i cant wait
The two options are a drill & tap probe or a clamp-on probe. The drill & tap goes into the manifold (obviously pre-turbo). The clamp-on can either go into the turbo up-pipe (pre-turbo) or can go post-turbo. Clamp-on is really easy but some are concerned that it may not seal all of the gasses around the small hole that you have to drill in the pipe. The drill & tap takes more time and caution to install but is more secure. I have the clamp-on pre-turbo and have had no problems.
Nice. Thx for the feedback. I contacted dieselmanor and the sales rep said that the exhaust manifold is what he would personally recommend. So I opted for that instead. Can't wait to get it!!!
