Pyro gauge not working - correct install point?

I recently bought a tri pod pillar and 3 gauges from Glowshift.

The tranny and boost gauges are working fine.

However, the EGT/Pyro gauge would not show any readings. Called Glowshift and they sent out another thermocule (sp) and I tried the new one. The gauge still shows no readings, although it does light up, and the needle does a 'sweep' when the ignition is turned on.

Did I mount the thermocule sender in the right place? I unscrewed it and dropped a meat thermomter in the hole and it shows a temp of about 85 degrees with the engine on an fully warmed up.

I changed your picture to a link, it's way to large for slow connections.
And thank you for making me smile today.
Now I'm not trying to embarrass you or anything, but..............
You have the thermocouple mounted in the intake manifold not the exhaust.
You need to mount it in the exhaust manifold in the exact same way that you have it in the intake pipe.
Here's a picture of mine. You can see it coming out of the bottom of the exhaust manifold at around the 7:00 o'clock position.

I'm not embarrased!

In your photo, is your thermocouple the silver wire, or the orange wire?

I mounted mine where I did because I thought that was "pre-turbo". Isn't yours "post-turbo"

Thanks!

His thermo couple is the silver one going into the rust colored exhaust manifold. And his is pre-turbo.

A post turbo set-up would bet installed in the turbo-down pipe close to the exhaust side of the turbo.

I hope this all helps you out, and make sure you plug up your hole in the intake manifold.

What Jvoigt said.
And now that you have a nicely machined hole in the Y-pipe, it would be an excellent place to install your boost guage hose and eliminate that tee connection to the MAP sensor.

In bigtexan's pic - why is his IC boot so crimped down looking between the two pipes. I'm new to powerstroke world, but my boots don't look like that, accept one by the IC unit

Yep! that's the oil filter. Hey bigtexan99 do you have instructions on where and how to drill the hole in the exhaust manifold? there are certain place's where you can drill and tap and places where you shouldnt drill cause of possible crackage from heat stress.

I hope some one who knows more about this chimes in soon...!!!!Hint!!!!

I didn't want to risk the Manifold so I went just past the manifold in the uppipe

The good news is you now have a tapped hole in the intake for your boost guage line.

Good Idea on the boost gauge going into the wrongly drilled hole. What sort of bolt/nut/clip would I use to hold the boost tube in place?

A compression fitting from Home Depot or Ace Hardware in the plumbing dept. I believe 1/8" but I am not 100% positive about it. Since you have not ran your boost line yet take it into Home Depot with you and fit a compression fitting to it.

I did what Alan did and instead of drilling into the manifold I went into the uppipe as well. Get some good bits and drill slow, when you are done use a flat head screwdriver with some vaseline on the tip to get the big chunks of metal out. This is not necessary but I did it anyways just in case. all the small pieces will blow out when you fire it up. Hope this helps

Can anyone explain the benefits of going in to the uppipe instead of the manifold. Is it easier, harder? Is it the positioning of the thermocouple? Why one over the other?

I was told the metal in the manifold has tendancy to crack. I didnt want to risk it so I mounted in the uppipe. If you are careful then the manifold is fine.
