looking for a pyro to put on my 83 6.9l i was going to pull one out of a semi good idea or bad? question 2 what does it take to install one? was going to get one out of a semi for free.
If your NON-Turbo you would tap the passenger side exhaust manifold near the outlet flange to except the adapter fitting for the probe. Personally I'd buy new gauge and probe.
should be fine to, unless you dont have proper clearance but you should be able to. I know i can judging by room around the area i would install one. I have this on my list as well!
Sure can as long as you are comfortable with a drill. Go slow and DON'T break the drill bit off! Since you don't have a turbo the shavings will blow out the tail pipe.
If your like most you'll be running at times on the higher end of the scale say 1100max. That's only 150* until the piston tops get soft and will melt if exposed long enough. Do you want to take a chance with an innaccurate or faulty gauge?, that's why I'd go new.
You want it as close to the exhaust valve as feasible. The Banks Wastegated SideWinder Turbo System comes with the gauge and the up pipe, BEFORE the turbo, tapped to recieve the included adapter and probe. You should not put it after the turbo because your losing the true temp reading due to heat loss through the exhaust up pipe and turbo housing.
Here is my 2 cents all semis use isspro pyros unless someone has installed a cheap one which would be stupid. I would trust one before any other brand period. and if it quits any truck dealer will sell you a new stinger or guage.
What I am saying I would rather have a free or even a fifty dollar one out of a semi than a new that is not isspro.
yea i thought about it some more and i think i am going to do the free one and if it dont work it hasent cost me anyting so what do i have to loose it isint going to hurt any thing i can think of.

Just curious, why would you pick the passenger side over the driver side?
Since the gauge most likely will be installed somewhere close to the driver, the shorter you have to run the wires, the better.
I just drilled straight up into the drivers side manifold this weekend in anticipation of getting a pyromoter. There is actually plenty of room to get in there from the bottom, I should get a picture, but I'm lazy and its cold out...
