Yeah Sleepyguy....but it SHOLUD be...and is....designed that way. Yeah..would suck for us to drive away and someone else in our party had the key.......but for a truck thief.....they better leave it running until they get to where they need to be. It's not going to start again if they shut it off.
Ambient lighting isn't all that special. Had it in my 150 and don't miss it in the 250.
Here's how I spec'd my 2017 Lariat CCSB 4x4
-diesel
-3.55 locker
-carpet delete
-chrome pkg
-FX4
-navigation
-rapid heat
-twin panel moonroof
-roof lights
-chrome PVD 20" wheels
-upfitters
-garage door opener
-tailgate step
-ultimate trailer tow camera
-heated rear seat
-lariat value pkg
In doing this instead of the Lariat Ultimate Package, I didn't get or got instead the following
-Standard interior lighting vs Ambient Lighting where you have additional lighting in the foot well, arm rests, under seats, console(s) etc. of your color choice between the main primary colors red, blue, purple, yellow, green etc.
-Traditional light and wiper controls instead of Automatic High Beam with Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers
-Traditional key instead of Intelligent Access with Push-button Start (PEPS)
-I got manual tilt/telescoping wheel without heat instead of Power Telescoping/Tilt Steering Wheel/Column with heat, memory
-Taligate that locks and unlocks with the doors and manual release instead of Remote Tailgate Release
MSRP difference of $67,720 instead of $69,535. Should I have spent the extra ~ $2K for these other things instead? Sometimes I think so and sometimes I don't. I would like to have the auto high/low beams they were nice on the 150, but if I had never had them I probably wouldn't miss them. Same goes for heated steering wheel. The power part of the steering wheel I don't care about or miss. Remote tailgate release I always thought may result in damage to the tailgate by accidentally hitting the button when you didn't mean to and it dropping on something. Rain sensing wipers were pretty useless unless they've improved them. Too much lag time in sensing and responding to rain volume. I ended up having to control them manually anyway.
Okay. I'm disappointed I won't have the ability to get in the truck without hitting unlock... Golly that's a first world problem if I ever heard one!
I currently have the remote tailgate release on my F150. I don't need it. It sounds like our trucks are very similar. I didn't get the Nav, sunroof, or chrome package.
Will I still have the dampened tailgate opening? Will it have a button or a pull handle? I will miss my ambient lighting. I didn't see that as a feature of the lariat ultimate when I ordered my truck, and I don't see it on the website now. The only reason I didn't get the Ultimate is because I didn't want a sunroof.

It does restart if you shut it off as long as you restart before the timer runs out...maybe 30 seconds. The screen will warn you.
Somebody said FORScan can change the mode and the truck won't be able to be driven without the key. Can't remember the name of that mode.
I heard some where you could set the truck so it will not allow you to drive away without the key present in the truck. Can anyone comment on how this works or how to setup?
My pet peave is being able to drive a push button start car away without the key in the vehicle once started. Yes safety blah blah I would rather the thing just not allow you to drive it until you come back.
You can do just this with FORScan and the Secure Idle/Police Option feature. I set this value and know it works. No way to put the truck in Drive without the key present no matter how the car was started. Sometimes I'll jump in the truck with the engine running and notice that I can't put it into drive for a half second. The steering column shifter is locked until the truck detects a key.
Epic...you are talking about after the Forscan correct?? Because...like Troverman stated...which I didn't know until I tried it...if you get back into the truck while it's running...with no key...you have 30 seconds to restart. If you re-start within that 30 seconds....you can put it in drive and drive away again....with no key. This is the factory setting. Just wanted to make sure you were talking about AFTER you did the Forscan you it wouldn't allow you to put it in drive. Thanks.

You'll have a pull handle. No key hole like on the last gen and it locks/unlocks with the door locks.
F2502011....this is not so with the 2017. You can leave the truck running...get out and shut the door. Yes...the horn will honk twice. Key here is to hold the fob way out with your other hand....away from the handle. Lock your truck with the external key pad and it will lock and stay locked with the truck running. If you try and do it with the fob too close...it will keep unlocking...lol. Just takes one time to figure it out. If you can't hold the fob far enough away....just set it on the ground for a sec about 6 feet away..go back over and lock the truck. It will stay locked...and running until you walk back up.
yes yes I understand now lol. Somewhat embarrassing I made an assumption as to how the peps worked and never really took the time to experiment with it and educate myself about it more. I had never been able to get it to work the way I wanted it to so I just assumed it couldn't be done. I do feel more confident having a key though and I always know where it is or at least I better to be able to crank the vehicle.

I, too, am used to leaving a spare set of keys hidden in my truck before getting this new fob and have been trying to figure out how to safely do it. I've always had this fear of returning from a trip to the airport parking lot and realizing I'd left my keys halfway across the country in a hotel room or something. At least I could still get home.
For short durations like running, it's good to know that the handles won't open with the fob inside the vehicle, though I haven't tested that yet.
I wonder if it would be worth it to leave the spare fob hidden in the vehicle with the battery removed (maybe everything in a zip lock bag). That would provide a small measure of additional protection and the manual states that the fob doesn't lose its programming during battery replacement. Idk...might just lead to problems with that fob. The manual does mention to be careful not to remove any of the grease on battery terminals and circuit board while replacing the batter, so maybe leaving it cracked open wouldn't be a good thing.
Taking the battery out won't stop a fob from working. There is a special place you can hold the fob to in the event you need to start your truck and your fob battery is dead.

That's true, but I was thinking more along the lines of removing the battery and placing it and the fob in a ziplock bag then hiding them somewhere, say behind the back seat (since it's a little tricky to lower it). Then, if you're ever in a bind, you've got a fob.
For that matter and along your line of thinking...just remove the battery altogether and reassemble the fob. Keep battery as a spare for your main fob then hide the spare as described above. When you need it, place it in the programming slot and start the truck (assuming that it will still work with no battery at all, not just a dead battery). I may give this a try.
Been off the forum for a few weeks due to a new job and limited computer time. I got news today that made my jaw hit the floor. I tried searching real quick but wanted to add to this post right away. I don't want to give thieves any new info....BUT...is it true what I heard and saw a pic of today???? A friend's 2017 was broken into this weekend. Thieves just pulled the door handle away from the truck, used channel locks and turned the cylinder just behind the handle and the alarm was disarmed and they opened the door!!!! Can this happen? He says his dealer confirmed that YES....Ford has to address this new discovery with the new handle. One trick to fix is to move the back door handle to the front...OR....take the cylinder/key hole out of the front one and lose your auto key fob opening ability. Will have to use the unlock button on the fob or the keypad on the pillar. ANYONE have anything else to chime in on this?? I've got a pic to post in a sec. I'm probably a few weeks behind in hearing about this....but holy **** FORD....did you really make it easier to break into these trucks than the 2011 was????

Perhaps it has already been fixed, shortly after getting my Job 2 truck (Feb 24 build), I used the key to unlock the door, opened it and promptly set off the alarm. I do not want to try it again at this late hour.

This has been my concern since day one. Just pulling the handle you can see it's not much more than plastic. Horrible design.
