Theft

In Texas Mexican alien and drug smugglers steal the Superduty 4x4s for off-road border crossings. My cop friend said the theft rate for Superduties is very high here.

I've had two super duties broken into in the north Dallas suburbs. Installed Jimmi Jammers on the old style doors. Hoping these new handles require more than a screwdriver to get into as the old ones that's all that was needed.

Jimmijammers will not fit to my knowledge. They were designed specifically for the old style door handles to overcome their weakness which was a simple screwdriver and a hand.

Note the picture is the old style. If memory serves this product only came about due to the super duties. Both my break ins and my friends break in were all this method.

They evidently have a 2017 version according to this link:

Jimmi Jammer Model Selection

It says to call for details.

Also, now that the F150 and Super Duty trucks are closely related as far as hardware goes, any trick used to steal one will probably work on the other. The 2015 F150s have been out for awhile. May be worth checking to see how they are holding up to theft attempts. The screwdriver trick seems to work on the newer style handles too:

I for sure am not putting them on my truck. All that does is cause more damage as the thief struggles to get it unlocked. A friend put a set in on his 03, they gouged the door up real nicely in the HEB parking lot trying to get around the jimmi jammer. I could see someone who keeps stuff in their truck wanting them, but my truck is completely empty. Not even a piece of trash, about all they'd find is the owners manual and insurance.

Thanks for those links puddintank. Seems like its still pretty easy to get in them. Oh well, its our fault for having nice things anyways.

They are also available for early 2000's GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado. We considered installing them in our 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 after it was broken into by punching the lock at a gun show at the fair ground in Stockton, CA. They took an iPod, GPS and aftermarket stereo and they tried to take the subwoofer but it was too heavy. We choose to just avoid Stockton rather then getting the Jemmi Jammers installed.

I had no idea that stealing tailgates was a "thing", I've never even heard of it! Must be a southern thing? Hopefully it's covered by insurance. Are they being sold on Craigslist?

It's a "thing" because it's a chain reaction. Once the first tailgate got stolen from someone that would buy a stolen tailgate because they didn't want to pay $3000 for a new one....well there ya go....lol. Usually not Craigslist or online. Friend of a friend knows a guy.....that's why it's such a big thing. You steal a $3000 + tailgate and sell it to someone that needs one for 900.....great business...until...you know...Bad Boys..Bad Boys....

It sounds like the new tailgates auto lock with the doors on most models. It makes me wonder about the longevity of the lock mechanism that's used. Is this new to super duty trucks?

Similar mechanism used in doors for the ones that actually have a lock. They should last just as long. The power tailgate just cuts electricity so nothing to go "bad" besides the circuit and if that goes bad you are going to be in trouble with those tailgate, but I doubt that will happen.

Any police officer is going to tell you to lock your vehicle. A lot of crooks will go through a parking lot, driveways in a neighborhood, etc...just pulling door handles until they find a vehicle open. Locking prevents the easy thefts.

The tailgate lock actuator will last as long as the ones in your doors...basically, a very long time. No worries there.

As far as the tailgate lock goes, I know on the previous years all you had to do was unscrew the access panel from the inside face of the tailgate and the lock mechanism was right there to disable. I am pretty sure the new ones are the same way.
