Hurst, if you get your fuel gauge out without cutting the studs, you can test it to make sure it still works after spinning the studs. I use a couple of 1.5 volt batteries hooked together & a couple of short wires with alligator clips. One end of the wire on the studs, the other on the batteries. If good, the needle will move. You may have to reverse the wires to get polarity correct.

If the gauge had to be cut off, or didn't survive the spinning studs, contact me. I have tested spares I can set you up with.

Well what I did was grab ahold of the top and loosened it more. But I never took the gauge out. I just tightened it back up. That gauge worked before I just had the light issues. I got everything cleaned up and I put tape down under the printed board to give more contact. Ill test it out when I get home from work....I wont have the greenish glow anymore.

But in hindsight, I do need a guage cluster with a nicer backing and circuit.

I frequently check inventory at the JY to see if they have any of these trucks. They havent had this body style, since I sawzalled the back off one. But they do have 4 Econolines from 86-91. If I'm not mistaken NumberDummy said they are the same, Is this correct?

Plugged it in last night. Still no lights. Looks like I need to replace it.

My dash lights wouldn't work in my 79 and I determined it was also the printed board causing problems. I ended up taking the light sockets out of a couple RV clearance lights and installed them in the holes where the original dash light sockets were. Wired the new sockets to the ash tray light wire and to ground. Worked out great. Even had the same 941 bulbs so the brightness was correct.
