No dash lights
I've tested each light individually, then tested them once placed in the gauge cluster. They work, then I reinstalled the cluster. I have no lights, I turn the headlights on, turn the dimmer, nothing. Should I suspect the light switch, or do you think it's something else? Also, how can I rest it from here?

It's probably your light switch. A lot of times the contact inside of the dimmer switch will fatigue and not make a solid connection, causing these problems.

I had the dash of my 78 open the other day, and there's a blue wire with red stripe for dash lights. It was unused, but probably for the radio. Check for power there. The rheostat in the dimmer switch also gets crudded up. Sometimes turning it a lot helps loosen the crud

The **** and shaft is a one piece assembly, fits into the hole at the front of the switch.

No, it's a separate part. And, there are two different ones.

You won't find it at the usual "neighborhood parts stores." Carpenter has reproduced it under these two Ford part numbers.
D3TZ-11661-A .. Headlamp **** & Shaft: 1973/74 F100/350 / 1975 F100/350
before serial number V80,001.
D4FZ-11661-A .. Headlamp **** & Shaft: 1975 F100/350
from serial number V80,001 / 1976/79 F100/350 // 1974/80 Pinto/Bobcat.
Serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN

Don't you currently have the ****/shaft with your current switch? You just push the small metal button on top of the switch then pull it out.

I would try to find a ford switch. The aftermarket ones are crap. The round part for the dimmer is smaller and more prone to failing. Almost started on fire on my 73 tbird. Bought an original ford one on ebay. Works much better.
