My lady and I are planning to attend. We may be fashionably late depending on southbound traffic from Lynnwood (her), then Kirkland(us). My Texas redhead looks forward to seeing if BBQ can be properly done in such a place as the PNW. Trucks, beer, BBQ, and an inauguration that squeezes glorious tears from the locals.. we're in.
Not to go too far off topic (but I'd interrupt a presidential inauguration to talk BBQ), but Ceder River BBQ is 5-6 blocks away and has decent BBQ according to a TX buddy of mine. I've eaten there a few times and it's good by NW standards.
Jack's BBQ in Seattle (SoDo area) has insane BBQ and I'm told they're from TX. They got a shout-out from some big BBQ writer/critic based out of Austin. Biggest drawbacks are the location and price. My lunch was around $20, but had the best brisket and pulled pork I've ever had.
Another good meet. Jimmy Macs is the spot, with a Texas girl sign off. Legit. There weren't enough people to pool up the parking lot a bit so people could proud up their joy toys. We're getting there. There were quite a few Ford trucks in the lot, enough that I was excited going in to what turnout might be. As it was it was us and Yahiko from the forums. Other Ford owners were just there doing their own things.
Yahiko brought up a couple good points over dinner. While meets happen fairly regularly on the west side, the east side doesn't so much. He also expressed a very good idea about a summer meet somewhere central in WA. How hard could this be? We live in Prius country around Seattle, but a bit east is pickup truck country.
Is there anyone with an idea for a time and place for a central Wa meet? Maybe coinciding with a concert, rodeo, or (heaven forbid) gun show? I've done Sturgis for Harley's, Daytona Bike week for all things two wheels, Oshkosh for wings, and a few others less known for people that like things. I'd drive a day for a Ford truck meet, easily. Through the snow uphill just adds to the story.
Of course I say this right before I fly out for work in AK. I live here though and hope to return to more meet ups with folks that dig their workhorses. Cheers.
I live in Wenatchee, but I know every location East of the pass (plus a good share of the state West of the pass). It all depends on what kind of meet you want to have. Day trip with good food and something to see? Leavenworth comes to mind, but the parking has to be far enough from downtown to get several vehicles near each other - yet walking distance from the plaza. Cle Elum has some nice hangouts, and it's a great excuse to go for a drive - no parking issues here. Yakima, Wenatchee, and Winthrop commit one group or another to longer drives for a one-day adventure - and Ellensburg is a bit drab.
Now... if you're talking a whole weekend, then ideally it would be near boating, shopping, hotels, other outdoor activities, and camping. Confluence State Park in Wenatchee is the most centrally located venue I can think of in the whole state, with something for everybody. Vantage has some amenities alongside boating, but not much. Crescent Bar is pretty cool, but I don't think they have much in terms of rooms to rent.
BTW... While this is most assuredly SUV/Pickup country - ever since Ford came out with the 6.0L, the 6.4L, and the 6.7L Powerstrokes - we've been marching slowly toward Cummins country. Couple that with the Hemi, and most of the shiny stuff around here is Dodge.
Confluence Park is a great choice, and Wenatchee is way more affordable than Leavenworth. My rugrats are in Wenatchee, and as weird as it may sound, I bet I could get my ex-father in law to show with his '72 flatbed. Ha! Timing will most likely not work for me unless it were to lay in May or early June. Summers are always booked for me, this one my daughter starts her first job on a fishing boat in AK. Not missing it.
There is a lot in there on what to look for and how to deal with it.
Something like an OBD2 dongle and one of the smartphone apps
