I bought a 67 f-100 4x4 about 6 months ago and I measured the wheel base today. It is 150 inches! Can anyone tell me why this would be?
Straighten the front tires when you measure. Only kidding.
But seriously it must have been special built for the original purchaser. On the warranty plate there will prolly be a 6 digit number under "DSO". Looking up the frame for a "regular production" 67/72 F100 4X4, Ford only lists frames for 115" and 131".
Also it has a short driveshaft from the rear of the transfer case to a carrier bearing, then it changes to a longer one piece driveshaft. Does this seem right?
There are no weld joints. The frame as I said is solid, unspliced and original looking. When I bought it I noticed that they had added fish plates to the inside of the frame. I asked him about it and he said that they had a feeder mechanism of some sort on this thing and that they braced the frame with these plates. Again, I ground around on the frame with a flapper wheel and can find no area where it was welded together. It's all smooth top and bottom. The vin says its a long bed (131 inch wheelbase) and that it's a conventional cab, 67 f-100 4x4. ??
Could you take a photo of the door tag? The door tag would list the trucks wheelbase from the factory. Just out of curiosity where are you measuring from exactly?
The door tag says 131 inches for the wheelbase. Wheelbase is measured from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel and that's where I'm measuring.
What is the length of the frame, back of cab to rear of frame? Wheel base is measured from wheel center to wheel center. Looks to me the rear section of frame is just shy of 8' which makes it a 131" wheel base.
Although I've never had any formal training, I pretty much know my way around a Stanley 25 foot tape measure. I measured the wheelbase on my 69 F-250 for practice first and it measured 131 inches. I may need to send my tape measure out for calibration however.
