Ball joints

Looking to replace upper and lower ball joints in my truck, but after checking Rock auto and Napa online both only show options for upper that say "will not fit OE control arm". Do I have to buy a whole new upper arm?

Yes, you need the entire upper control arm. The OEM upper has a non-replaceable ball joint. No idea why.
Kind of a pain, but you end up with new upper bushings as well.

Do yourself a favor and buy MOOG for at least the bottom joint... MOOG are not that much more for the complete top either.

Search around, you can get a ball joint kit with two arms and a set of lower ball joints cheap on Ebay.
Moog is decent, but I also use the cheap China parts with good luck too
