I am getting ready to buy new lower Ball Joints for my truck. They have begun to sqeak but are not wore out yet. There is no play in the joint yet but they are sqeaking.
My question is ......Do I have to buy the whole control arm with the ball joint already pressed in or can I just get the joints? What are the dis-advantages and advantages of doing this?
Secondly. should I get motorcraft or are the aftermarket ball joints just as good? What are the cost of motorcraft balljoints?
I ran into a problem where the ball joint,( tried genuine ford, motor craft and another after market brand ) and the ball joint was to small for the control arm hole. Don't know if it was wrong control arm installed on truck when assembled still tryibng to figure it out
I also say get the moog joints, and while you are under there, replace the sway bar links too with moog, since the stock ones tend to break. Check out Discount Auto Parts they have pretty good prices.
oh and if you buy the moog upper joint and control arm, that ball joint can be pressed in and out unlike the stock ones, so if you have to replace them again, you don't have to get an alignment.
