Question Lower Ball Joints

I was advised my lower ball joints on my 98 Expedition need replaced for state inspection. I looked in the repair manual and it says that the joints are a part of the arm and cannot be replaced. Yet, the auto parts stores will sell me the lower ball joints. So............can you replace the lower ball joints or must you replace the entire arm? It look to me you can "press" out and replace the ball joints.

Yes they can be replaced without replacing the whole control arm.
Just replacing the ball joint is a lot easier than replacing the whole arm too.

Thanks Racerguy..........its looked like they were replacable. One more question, do they in fact need to be "pressed" out.....or can they be removed/installed without a mechanical press?
Thanks. Bill

At work we have drivers for them but normally you use a ball joint press which looks like a big C-clamp with a receiver cup to fit over the joint. Some parts stores will rent these to you.
