there were 2 co.s that made them. I've not done any research since finding my MA cohort, don't remember the 2 names or the sights but there may B more action on the 4 door bronco site if U drill down to the forum for centerions (w/in that site - a different forum).
Good luck,
they have a very particular purpose. I like the 3 door best but there's 2 door & 4 door.
Like 2 make up a full hight glass bed cover, place a door in the back of the cab (walk into bed frm cab) so as 2 B able to remove the top when needed.
4 WD & a cummins/allison would B just bout right!

Coming work: Detangling the wiring harness into the Ford F350 bed tail harness. I'll probably go bug the OBS sections of this site for info. Then I need to mount the replacement bumper, which needs its own brackets fabbed because of how the new bed sits.

Super exciting times!

Things are starting to get exciting. I picked up this FITech rig on Craigslist the other day. Now to figure out how to install it! Anyone have some good reading material on the matter?

Specifically, I'm wondering what needs to happen to get fully electronic timing control. The manual mentions something about locking out the distributor advance mechanisms. Is this as simple as plugging the vacuum port?

Additionally, it says timing control doesn't work with "ready to run" distributors. I'm not familiar with this terminology. What type would come with an 86 460 Duraspark II system?

Visit this forum, they have excellent articles on many of the conversions of the centurion nature. It's mostly ford based, this above forum, though centurion also made chevy conversions at times.

Apparently you could get a cap from the factory for this van as well, there are pictures on the forums, and links for factory manuals.

You can probably remove the vacuum advance or lock it down so that it can't move at all. I'm guessing this is a generic kit that is designed to fit and work with any brand vehicle, so some of the instructions will not apply on your vehicle.

In addition to a vacuum advance some distributors, such as a GM HEI, have internal swing weights that physically vary timing based on RPM. It sounds like you will want to remove that feature too if it exists.

The computer will want a static timing signal and any variation of the signal such as that caused by any timing advance mechanism is going to throw off the whole program of spark and fuel injection pulse timing. If you have noticed on modern fuel injection systems, they have a toothed ring behind a pulley or on the flywheel with a sensor that sends a signal to the computer telling it exactly where the engine is with regard to rotation degrees. This allows the computer to know an exact timing sequence based on the physical position of all the engine components. On some engines Ford also uses a cam position sensor that took the place of the distributor. It still has a distributor shaft, but externally there is a simple small sensor instead of the old type distributor cap & rotor bug.

If you didn't get instructions with the kit, be sure to download the instructions and read thoroughly before you swap any parts and especially before you modify any existing parts. And don't be shy about contacting that company's support if you find something you aren't sure about. That is what they are there for. And I am sure they will enjoy knowing about this vehicle as much as all of us on this forum do.

I have a buddy that recently upgraded his old carbureted 302 to fuel injection, but he used all Ford parts from later model engines. One really cool thing I have learned about Ford is that they will overlap technology, such as the 1996 Bronco, the only OBD2 Bronco. Even if it is a short run Ford will have some really interesting "swap parts" like the first run of mod 4.6L Romeos that had the old SBF bell housing bolt pattern.

Need to disable the mechanical advance as well.

I know nothing about "ready to run" or actually installing a FITech system though...

But Google led me to this because I was curious.

The Duraspark has an external control box, right? So maybe it will work with timing control?

No real help from me so I look forward to the results!

Alright gang, I have a stupid-smart question.

How.... do you change the cylinder 1 and 2 spark plugs on the 460?

I like to think I'm somewhat smart, some of time, but I cannot see how to wiggle a plug socket into that crevice short of some video game style map-clipping cheat.

There's an engine crossmember right under it. From some research, I see people often have to remove the battery tray and some intake/evap components. Or go through the wheelwells!?

How is any of this okay :/

If I had a gantry lift I wonder if it's easier to just briefly elevate the whole cab.....

When I had a 1990 with a 351, I had to call a buddy with skinny arms and wrists to get to some of the plugs. It looks even worse with the 460.

You can tell it's been actually working lately since I haven't been on this forum! The EFI install was highly successful and I can now answer a ton of questions about the FiTech systems. Decided to use "easy mode" and not try to switch to electronic timing because of the need for a dyno to tune it. It's been nearly 500 miles since going EFI and I have not dug around under the hood a single time.

I also redid the bed mounting to line up the bodywork better and make more optimal brackets.

And pulled off a power window motor rebuild because right after installing the EFI rig, it of course has to offer me another problem...

I'm pretty happy with the state of everything now, and since it hasn't required intense wrenching for a long time, I'm going to start improving the little things that don't work - such as some of the marker lights, other body issues, and maybe putting curtains back in it. It also needs the rear bumper mounted finally now with the bed in the correct position.

Here it is on a test drive trip to Lake Whatever-the-Hell, around 160mi round trip, 9.5mpg the whole way Shows the better-aligned bed now.

I hate to bump on this thread, but I can't find a way to message you. I recently bought a 1984 version and have some questions.

Hey, I can try answering some of them.... They seemed to have changed versions every year though so no guarantees anything lines up!

So to be frank....I know relatively nothing about cars and am hoping to learn with this vehicle. It appears to be overall just a POS. My buddy is saying for it to run at the moment it needs a whole new wiring harness. I cannot find one for the life of me. I called Painless and they said they dont make a kit for the econoline 350. I am curious if you know where i can get a wiring kit for this vehicle. It just looks like 10 different people have been in there jerry rigging it up.
