You either have to change the drivers side engine perch to an FE perch from a power steering equipped truck, or do a little grinding. The drivers perch is shaped different on a PS truck versus a non-PS truck.
Wow sparky, I never knew that. I have been around these trucks since 1977 and I still learn things. So when you put p/s on an FE truck you need the engine perch? I haven't even heard this mentioned before. I have done the conversion twice, but never to an FE. Thanks
I did this same conversion on my 1968 F-250 and you do need a different engine perch. The Ford box is much bigger than the Bendix box which was used on the 1968 and early 1969 trucks. The required perch slants forward a little (toward the radiator) to make room for the Ford box. If you look at your frame, you will see a hole just forward of the existing perch. This is one of the holes your new perch will bolt to. The other is covered by the existing perch but it is up under there.
I think the 1970-up trucks with FE all had the same perch but just see if it is bolted to the forward set of holes or not to tell if it is the one you want.
I will also be doing the PS conversion but have that 2wd crossmember...Im swapping a 460 in using the L&L motor mounts (towers) . does anybody know if I will have any problems there?
Originally posted by klatta Any ideas where I can get a perch, or where I can get a picture of one?
I have one on a truck I am presently piecing together.....I will try and borrow a camera and take a picture of it.
It is as jas88 says slanted forward and kind of flat on top...compared to the other.
How much of a hurry are you in?? It may be a day or two before I can get a picture of it.

Not sparky (or ever could be) but you don't have to change the perch, just grind out the notch but it won't be as purdy.
Right you are, Barry, grinders and torches are our friends
And a creative guy could grind it out, weld the hole up real nice, splash some paint on it and "Viola" custom engine perch
So only the bendix equiped years had the interfereing perch? If converting a 70 or newer there will not be an interference problem? I converted 2 72s, a 300-6 F-250 and a 302 F-100 and had no such problems.
