Actually the bendix boxes will bolt right in, using the manual column and the non-PS perch, so I am told I have never actually seen a Bendix box as they are sort of rare.
The Ford box is bigger and required a new type of engine perch and a shorter steering column shaft.
Leave it to Ford to keep re-designing the wheel ever couple of years
Right, but what I was getting at is do the manual steering pickups of the non bendix years still need the tower swap/modification or did all the pickups made after the ford style box was introduced have the p/s style tower?
Ok, sorry for misunderstanding Good question.
My 69 had manual steering and the non-ps perch...not much help as is is still in the changeover years I think........I have actually never had an FE equipped truck later than 69 with manual steering.......wow and I have owned so many trucks over the years.
Maybe someone else here has more info.
The 360 that is making temporary residence in my 1969 Ranger came from a '71 SC with manual steering and it had the proper perch in it for PS. That is how I made my assumption that the 70-72 trucks already had the proper perch in place. Of course, a sample of 1 does not a trend make.
Before you ask, that truck went to Wisconsin over a year ago.
One more tidbit of information for the archives. After working on these trucks for longer than I can remember and owning more of them than I can count, I still learn new stuff here all the time. What a great site and a great bunch of guys.
I finally got a chance to borrow a camera and take some pictures of the different FE engine mounts/perches/towers (or whatever you want to call them ) for PS vs Non-PS.
I put them in a galley ..... check them out....I hope they show enough detail to tell the difference between the two types.
