HFCM Issue

So I attempted to drain the HFCM today on my 2013 powerstroke and a blue/greenish liquid came out (which I assumed was diesel) so I did not drain much. I tighten the cap as much as I could and started driving and the check engine light came on. I ran the codes and it said something to the effect of reduction in power. I cleared the code, tightened the drain plug and the light came back on a few minutes later. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on the issue here??

Did you unplug the sensor next to the drain and forget to plug it back in ??
That would give you a code. One you don't want !

Sounds like you have bigger issues then.
Probably should find out what the codes really are and have some more details listed.
Good luck !

I just bought the truck so it is currently under warranty. At first, I though I just didnt tighten drain plug enough which was causing it to leak. Now I'm thinking I may have overtightened the drain plug which supposedly could have it leak along the frame rails. Not sure.

If the drain is not leaking fuel externally on the ground, it's not the problem causing the MIL to come on.

If it is somehow sucking air into the DFCM through the drain valve, or anywhere else, you will get low rail pressure and cause a reduction in power. You may have pinched or rolled the O-Ring in the valve and allowed it to suck air.

Leaving the plug disconnected will NOT set a code.

What size o-ring is needed to replace it (if that is the issue)?

Interesting, I wonder what code indicates that. Anyway, it's great that you got it repaired for under a hundred bucks.

Sorry for my error here.
I have left the one on my combine disconnected and it throws a MIL.
but never tried it on my truck. I shouldn't have assumed.

I'm scratchin' my head a little here. So, the blue-green liquid was gear oil? And soothing you loosened allowed some to escape? And a leaking pinion seal throws a code? Just to keep me from laying awake tonight trying to figure this out, can you fill in a few blanks for me?

I am totally confused. How do you confuse a pinion gear box for the hfcm? How does one confuse gear oil for diesel fuel? I get dummer every day.
