Does the 4R70W convertor have a drain plug? Sure would make servicing easier, but I thought the OEM's went away from convertor drain plugs (no doubt a cost savings) in the 70's.
Look on the bottom of the transmission housing for a rubber plug. If it has one then you probably have a torque convertor drain. They stopped using it but I cant remember what year, maybe 2003? Now we use a transmission fluid exchange machine to flush them.
You know, you can flush these without a machine. The fluid pump is driven by the input shaft on most fords. As a result, you can use the transmissions internal pump to flush it. You just disconnect the transmission cooler return line, and add fluid as the old fluid is pumped out. The exact procedure may vary a little with yours.
My 97 has one and have you EVER tried to remove it???
Good luck, you have to keep rolling to engine over until to plug is exactly at the bottom.
I gave up trying to remove it. I just use a transmission pan drain plug and drain the fluid ever so often.
Asked a trans shop about that drain plug and they did not have a clue what it was.

Yes, it was very easy. One large screwdriver and just pushed it around until the plug was at the bottom. Took only a couple minutes to get it in the right position.
