I was just curious if anyone has upgraded the rear differential to the locking axle. would the whole axle have to be swapped or can the internal diff just be changed? Is wiring all ran in the cab?
I'd go with an after market selectable locker like an ARB if one is available. That way you can run it locked at speeds above 25 if you want to.
im looking into this, the rear axle is a dana 60? i have 3.73 gears. im trying to find the correct one. ARB is compressored correct? and this unlike detriot FULLY disengages?

the arb locks with air pressure and fully unlocks with out once the pressure is released. Detroit lockers are okay i had one in my 99 250 with the 7.3 and about every 6 months i was replacing my back tires. it would lock making slow speed turns and when pulling out into traffic and was very unpredictable when the road was wet you could hear it lock and unlock sometimes kicking the back end from side to side in the process.
Eaton elockers or arb would be the way i would go
I have a Detroit locker in my f350 for about four or five years now and I can't say but good about it. I tow and haul and it doesn't eat tires any differently than the stock ls, and unpredictable? it's a locked rear end it won't slid out UNLESS you hammer the skinny pedal and force the truck to slid. I drive all winter in the snow with no weight in the bed and my truck stays planted UNLESS I want to play! I'm not gonna lie ever once in a while you get that legendary Detroit locker clunk but it dosent make the truck jerk or be uncontrollable
