Has anyone put in a locking axle to replace there non locking axle? Have a 2015 f350. And found a electric locking for a great price. Can this swap be done? Thanks
Both axles are 3.73. The price on the axle is a steal and low miles. I assume i can just run 12V on a switch to it if i cant get it to work with the computer. There isnt a pre existing connector either. Also wondering i can get the axle in and wire it at another time? It will act as a regular axle?
On the Ford electronic locker, Ford programmed it to unlock above approx 35 mph. Not so sure what happens over time if you run a 12v wire to it and leave it "on" all the time.

as stated.. not a full time "ON" device..
basically its a 12 volt powered electromagnetic...
I say a Switch AND a lamp... or LED.. and Easy to see in daytime.
I hear theres a third wire ran to it. Im assuming the third wire is confirmation signal that its locked. If thats the case. I will have the LED off that

Forget Ford's idiotic way of using a "locker" it's made to be ON OR OFF not controlled by some engineers computer system that tells it to turn off when I'm trying to get unstuck or pull someone out. Flipping neutered trucks nowadays
got some more info on this. Theres only two wires to the axle, 12v postive and a common. It gets 12v and locks. if it came from the factory, and truck goes over 35mph, 12v is cut off and axle unlocks. if axle was locked "full time" id blow the rear in the hour. I have a locking axle coming in on wedensday they said, game plan is to drop it in sunday if it looks good. from pics of it, its in really great shape. i already purchased a new 4x4 switch with the locking axle function. my plan is to find the two wires that closes when switch is pulled out, wire to a relay, that will send 12v to the axle. also a LED will illuminate when the switch is pulled out. wires were pre existing to the switch, but when pulled out, no "locked" icon illumainated on the dash, so unless i want to deal with a ford dealer to see if they can unlock feature, im going the hardwire route. Its possible that when the axle locks, the computer picks up a amp reading on that line and thats how the computer confirms that it is locked. i highly doubt, or the axle itself is the ground and the second wire is a confirmation wire. IF anyone has a wire diagram on this, i would appricate it. thanks
Hey guys, just wanted to keep you guys up to date, me and my buddies got the new axle in a week ago. Job took about 3 hours and a 24 pack. Heres 2 videos showing how its all wired in and trying out. Thanks for the help
Does anybody know if you turn the truck off will the axle stay locked....like on an incline or something...?
on mine, yes it will stay locked, but i dont know how much battery it will consume. Axle from factory i would assume not. If u have the wheels kind of bunched up. It will be forced to stay lock even if power os lost

how would it blow? Me and a bunch of my buddies have full spools in out mud trucks with zero issues. I personally have a Detroit locker in my f350 for over seven years with zero issues a buddy has a Detroit locker in his 2001 lifted f350 dually again with zero issues. We both tow and haul weight and use our trucks as daily drivers
