Sealed Beam headlight conversion?
Sealed Beam headlight conversion?
So I know there's threads on this. But I wanna go the other way.
I have the stock 2000 yellow, cloudy composite headlights on my Excursion.
I originally went shopping for some 2005-2007 composite headlights as well as the 2005-2007 grille.
I ended up with the Grille and the turn signals/light bezels off a 2007 XL that originally had sealed beams. (As well as a set of 2007 Composites.)
That got me to thinking... Nobody likes sealed beams, but I don't see much advantage to the composites.

- More expensive for when I hit a deer... Not if... When. I've trashed several front ends with deer. They never leave insurance information. Sealed beams are cheap enough to find at any Wal*Mart, auto parts store, or truck stop along the road.
- If I retrofit to HID/LED, I have to mess with sealant and whatnot. There are several suppliers of Sealed Beam conversions that'll just drop in.
- I don't think I'm doing much for aerodynamics... It's a freaking Excursion. It's got the aerodynamics of my office. 30 square inches of headlight isn't going to make this thing any sleeker.
GE makes and led drop in replacement for the sealed beal lights a member here has them and they seem really good option.

(As well as a set of 2007 Composites.)Beginning in 1940, vehicles sold new in the US had to have sealed beam headlamps.
1987 was the first year that F150/350 & Bronco had a separate replaceable halogen bulb behind plastic headlamp lenses.
No FoMoCo vehicle from the 21st century had sealed beam headlights. Sealed beams have the headlamp bulb sealed within the glass lamp, it cannot be replaced by itself.

The image above appears to be a 2005-2007 Ford SuperDuty equipped with 6054 Sealed Beam headlights. They have the bulb sealed in the glass lens and cannot be replaced by themselves.
This type of headlight bulb is still found on new XL model Ford SuperDuties, at least the 2015s at work have them.
My 03 XL has sealed (of course) beams and I prefer them over the composites too. I've been trying to find the headlight doors from a 05-07 (no luck finding a willing seller). They look so much cleaner than the first gens....
